Lucy Harris is a New York-based interior designer whose studio, founded in 2012, works on residential projects across the United States and abroad. The studio creates expressive, layered homes shaped by architecture, materials and the people who inhabit them.

Lucy works closely with her clients to understand how they want to live, guiding them through the many decisions involved in designing a home and crafting interiors that feel personal and deeply considered. The studio partners with architects, contractors and craftspeople, creating interiors that build upon the architectural framework and extend through the final layers of furniture, art and objects.

Lucy’s perspective is influenced by a lifelong closeness to distinctive houses. Her great-great-grandparents’ art and antiques-filled Boston townhouse became the Nichols House Museum. Later, her great-grandparents, landscape architect Arthur Shurcliff and designer Margaret Nichols Shurcliff, built an Arts and Crafts-style summer house in Ipswich, Massachusetts and transformed a 1790 English-style barn on the family property in Cornish, New Hampshire into a rustic studio. Lucy was raised in a modernist home in New England and today lives with her husband and daughter in a mid-century home in Usonia, a neighborhood designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, north of New York City. She is currently exploring the transformation of the barn on the Cornish property into a retreat for her family, continuing a long family relationship with houses formed by design, place and the generations who have lived in them.

Lucy Harris’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, AD Italia, Elle Decoration, House Beautiful, Homes & Gardens, The Local Project, The Wall Street Journal, Luxe and Interior Design. She is represented on The Expert and in the AD Pro Directory.

**★★★★★ — ohersh, Jan. 2025**

> We hired Lucy Harris Studio to help us design and decorate our three-bedroom apartment in Manhattan. We chose Lucy primarily because her aesthetic closely matched ours, but we quickly realized that we had hired a wonderful and well-educated design professional whose entire team is not only steeped in the world of design but also delightful to work with. Before beginning and throughout the design development process, Lucy and her team sought to understand our needs and goals, both functionally and aesthetically, and approached our project with a commitment to our satisfaction. Our project was challenging in at least two respects – my husband and I have different design priorities, and our living room is flanked by two walls of windows. But Team Lucy navigated both of those challenges deftly, tactfully, and with abundant patience. They designed for us a home that is both comfortable and beautiful, polychromatic but cohesive, functional and tranquil – thereby satisfying my husband’s and my various and sometimes conflicting needs. We are so very grateful to have a home we love, and we will always appreciate all of the work LHS did to help us create it.

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> What a pleasure it was to work with you on this project! The beautiful and very special end result is a real testament to you and your husband and how you both handled the process of navigating your individual preferences as well as the overall look and feel. You managed to end up with something that is very much you both, aesthetically and practically, which is really incredible. We loved working with you and are very proud of our collaboration!

> Lucy and her team were amazing to work with, and my NYC apartment is even better than I imagined. She learned my tastes and preferences, then enhanced and elevated them. I loved the process of finding options for furniture, light fixtures and decor independently, and I relied on Lucy to curate my suggestions to ensure the furniture was well proportioned and the rooms worked as a whole. She introduced me to many brands and options that I would never have found on my own, despite all my research. I relied on her most for the built-in work, and my home office and wall shelving is unique and beautiful. Her team was responsive, kind and talented.

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> Thank you so much Jennifer! It was so much fun to work with you and bring your home to fruition! Lucy

> I can only say wonderful things about Lucy Harris Studio and her entire team! It wasn't an easy project to do, we were in Europe and everything had to be done through Teams, Zooms meetings and emails. Nevertheless, everything was done with care and dedication and the project was accomplished just like we asked and dreamed. They have impeccable taste, great connections and solutions for everything. Always available for a phone call, a suggestion and patience. My next project in the US with no hesitation will be with Lucy and her team!!

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> Thank you so much for the kind review! We thoroughly enjoyed working with you and your family on this project. We are thrilled that you had a positive experience working with us. Looking forward to working together in the future!

> There are truly no words to describe how happy we were to work with Lucy Harris Studio. Our experience was totally positive from beginning to end, and that's saying a lot given the entire project took place during the Pandemic! Lucy and her team found a way to shop and meet with us virtually when needed, while dealing with delays in construction and furniture deliveries... They were patient, professional and upbeat in these challenging times. We always felt they were moving mountains for us to keep the process as stress-free as we could have hoped for. LHS brought creative vision to us, while also genuinely hearing and respecting our ideas and feedback throughout the process. We primarily worked with Lucy and Kelley, one of the LHS senior designers. We loved how they sourced items from a broad range of places and styles to give our home a really unique look and feel. They stretched what we might ordinarily have been drawn to, and they always hit a home run; their taste is impeccable. Our visitors thoughtfully comment how beautiful our home is, and how it doesn't have any sort of generic decorated look to it (which was important to us!). We have two young children, so we appreciated how much thought Lucy and her team gave to the consideration of practicality in their selections. We love how the space is not just nice to look at, but it's really very comfortable and user friendly to actually live every day life in. We couldn't ask for more! Can't wait to find another project at some point down the road to give us another opportunity to work with Lucy Harris Studio again.

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> Thank you so much for your kind words! We loved working with you and your family and are thrilled to know that it is mutual!

> Working with Lucy and her team at Lucy Harris Studio (LHS) has been an effortless process. LHS is professional and willingly collaborates on design ideas if so desired by her client. LHS worked on developing design concepts, furniture layouts and a final installation for my project. LHS was able to pick unique and special items that added a wow factor while also incorporating pieces I found into the design. LHS is able to work within budgets at a very effective high/low model. What stands out the most for me is that her team works for you. Meaning the LHS design concept is truly tailored to her client. LHS' ability to work on a project end to end, however customized to your needs, allows for you to pick and choose what works best for your budget. I highly recommend you hire LHS for your home design project.

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> Thank you so much Sejal! We have enjoyed working with you on several projects. Thank you so much for the kind words!

**★★★★★ — Blythe Wilder, May 2020**

> Lucy and her team designed our entire apartment, working with us over 18+ months from pre-construction through move in. They were true professionals throughout the project. We are thrilled with the end product and would recommend them unconditionally.

**Comment from Lucy Harris Studio:**

> Thank you so much Blythe! It was so great to work with you and your family on this project. We love everything you picked and the end result as well!

Once our clients finally found their ideal apartment, they hired us before they even closed. We agreed the space should feel airy and uplifting. We started with concept imagery of interiors with high contrast – white walls with dark accents in the modern furniture. He knew he wanted to entertain large groups of friends in the living room and wanted a bar area. We selected a very long sofa in a light beige for the living room and fo…
