While it looked beautiful when new, with very little use, it immediately started to deteriorate. We followed all the directions and treated it like a delicate egg, but it seemed as though any used ruined the finish. But you should be able to drill through it with a standard core bit that is normally used in the stone and tile industry. You can now buy these at the big box hardware stores as well as through local supply houses. **Q: concrete color** *(in Photo Questions)* Hi, beautiful counter and design! Wondering what pigment/dye you used for this? Thanks A: Hi Don, Thank you for the compliment! We wish we had finished photos of that project. The pigment was simply Black Oxide. Different manufacturers pigments will vary. The concrete mix design has a huge impact as well. A simple bag mix from a hardware store will be a low psi, less dense, more porous. The color would turn out lighter. The better the mix, the darker the color. The concrete mix in the photo is about 15,000 psi and only used 1.5% of the Black Oxide pigment that we source to reach this color. That being said, the sealer you use also plays a large part. This particular sealer color enhances more than most. If you are planning a DIY project, make sure you do some test casting before attempting the finished piece(s). You can buy our sinks directly from us (we crate and ship everywhere), or from one of our partnered plumbing distributors if you are in the Seattle Metro area. This was a custom sink design that we created in our studio for this client. It was a "one-off" custom piece, not a mass produced item. We would be more than happy to fabricate a custom sink for you. This was set as a corner unit with the drainboard and rails for a sliding cutting board. It could also be configured for a standard cabinet, with or without the drainboard and rails. Lighter colors are cooler. **Q: Help me select restoration hardware table we can use without fear** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi, I purchased this marble trestle table from Restoration Hardware. https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod6470121&categoryId=cat1537023 I sealed the table as advised with a marble impregnator , however the table absorbs oils from my hands (see photo) (looks like bike grease or the bottom of a pizza box in person). I worked at the table for 1 day and you can see stains from where I rested my wrists/hands as I was working (I didn't eat or spill anything on the table). Restoration Hardware is allowing me to exchange the table (not return) so I need to select another table. I have read the monocoat rubio thread, and Julie Banner's blog regarding the difficulty with the reclaimed oak tables and salvaged pine tables (and too be honest, I don't really love them) and am concerned that those won't hold up. I'm trying to select between these two. Does anyone have first hand experience owning and actively using either of these tables? Did you seal them? If so what did you use? (as mentioned, I've read the rubio moncoat thread in detail -- but that would be my last choice as I don't love the reclaimed oak and prefer not to have a pine table as they are very soft. A: We have had two requests in the last few months to help people that bought the RH concrete dining tables. One was able to return theirs, the other had to live with the stains and chips. Once the stains are there they don't always come out. Yes, they are low grade and therefore overpriced. But, even low grade concrete can be sealed properly. So can stone. Any quality concrete fabrication shop should be able to help you out if you opt for the concrete. I'd still push for store credit if at all possible. Trinic LLC's H12 water based sealer will protect the concrete. Any factory applied sealer should be stripped first.
