We were managing the project from "away" and periodically (about once every 3 weeks) came to check on the progress of the remodel. Typically, Better Built waited until 1-3 days before we arrived to begin whatever phase of the project we expected to see completed once we arrived. Often they ran into out-of-stock issues in purchasing materials or they'd send their workers to other projects when they should have been working on ours. The quality of their subs was also questionable. Their cabinet maker was great but Better Built never advised us of the cabinet maker's suggestion not to use our selected cabinet material and 2 years later we had problems with it. The painter was not good. They painted over previous paint drips without smoothing them down, and additionally left their own large drips. A cabinet relocation was left incomplete without any baseboard trim below it. New baseboard molding was cut improperly so it does't follow the cut out area adjacent to it. Untrained (by the product manufacturer) flooring installers left our new concrete floor looking like it was installed by amateurs. Better Built displayed no Quality Control or exhibited any supervision of this large project. Nor were they willing to accept responsibility for their failings and our dissatisfaction. Additionally, Better Built's business practices are in conflict with the State of California rules for how contractors should operate. > We continue to find issues with the project, even now. They have managed this job professionally with extremely high quality work at all levels. Communication has always been excellent. We have stayed on or near budget and schedule. **★★★★★ — Kenn, July 2015** > We recently used Better Built to remodel our Midcentury Meiselman home in Palm Springs after interviewing several contractors in the area. Like so many similar houses, while in sound condition, ours needed both significant updating and to completely replace the old galvanized plumbing. And as with any project, we had a limited budget. Mike Yakovich (“Big Mike”) and the team at BB really understood the totality of our needs and wants and how to help us bring our vision to life. > > Something that Better Built brought to the table that few others did was the Design/Built concept. They understood our desire to modernize without losing the original feel of the home we had. Then, since they were completely familiar with how the design had been generated, there were no surprises (added expenses for missed/forgotten items) during the project. You hear stories of contractors in the Valley not being reliable and not getting things done. These are not worries you’ll have with BB. With all projects like this going through the closeout punch list is a long process of calling the various trades back to adjust or touch up things. It was a complex project that entailed both preservation of key architectural elements as well as creating a seamless connection between the existing home and a new casita.
