> Working with Peter Pawlak on our San Francisco apartment was a positive experience in many ways. First of all, Peter is a talented professional designer who loves his work and included us in every aspect of the creative process. He was always available to take our calls and listen to our concerns, no matter how busy his schedule. This project was a total gut-job renovation and the end result was amazing: a tired old 1929 coop apartment evolved into an elegant modern space. We are thrilled and enjoying living in this beautiful and functional environment that Peter created for us. Lastly, on a more personal note, we so enjoyed working with a very talented architect who valued us as individuals and showed modesty and kindness throughout the project. We would welcome the opportunity to work with Peter Pawlak again should the occasion present itself.

> I have know Peter as a colleague for over 20 years. I have seen many private residences he has created. They are beautiful and, most of all, luxuriously comfortable homes. Peter is respectful and courteous to his clients; he is dedicated and thorough with the projects. I recently had an opportunity to work along side Peter, and was able to see the process in which he took an apartment project through. Peter is a very good communicator. He can translate and sometimes forecast his clients needs and desires in his design. He considers every minute detail of movements and how the space may be inhabited during design phase, and he is very knowledgeable in the construction process that the project flows seamlessly from start to finish. For the finishing touch, Peter is very well versed in furnishing and has a good eye for colors, that the homes he designed are at once impeccable and inviting.

> My husband and I hired PP to do our apartment renovation after seeing his work in our friends' new home. We thought he had the style and an eye for details that we were looking for. It wasn’t an easy task since the apartment was located in an old building, with a tiny elevator, narrow stairs and other obstacles that required a lot of planning and logistics, but Peter took the challenge. After 8 months we had the apartment of our dreams. Since day 1 Peter listened to our needs, including our kids'. He took every concern and opinion into consideration and was able to translate them with precision. When my son told him he wanted to design his own bookshelf, Peter was right there next to him, helping with the details and giving good advice with excitement and encouragement. The result is a home with personality, a home that reflects the family we are and that we enjoy living in. I had a great time with Peter visiting showrooms, looking for the right bathroom fixture, picking the wallpaper etc . During the whole process, he was very involved, concerned with costs and specially with the quality of the work. We became friends, and I have since recommend his work to a lot of people.

## Community Q&A

**Q: coping on brick, please?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Remodeling pool area with low brick retaining wall.

The coping in this picture looks attractive and aged ... that’s the look I want for my brick wall and pool coping.

Most pool companies are suggesting the typical travertine, limestone, etc., problem is that they look too new and perfect against the brick. Any suggestions would be helpful.

A: These walls had copings installed however I would recommend Indiana Limestone.

**Q: where can the B&W astronomical etchings be purchased?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: These items came from a vintage textbook on astronomy.

**Q: Bath surround** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello, could you tel me what the white bath surround is. Part of the bath or otherwise. Thank you

A: It's a custom surround made of white corian.

**Q: Where can you find the metal upper cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

The metal upper cabinets on the right of the photo

A: These are vintage St. Charles upper cabinets incorporated into modern design.

**Q: Where are the pillows from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

They are beautiful.

A: Thank you for noticing. The fabric was purchased by our client in South Africa, and the pillows were upholstered by Jose Quintana in Long Island City. We encourage our clients to purchase items during vacation trips and create their own memories.

**Q: Where are the striped pillows from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: These were available at DWR at the time.
