Aubrey came up with 3 designs for us to choose from. We had initially wanted to take out a wall. However, due to cost we ended up removing only a partial wall. This does give the feeling of a larger space. We have essentially the same lay out as the old kitchen; however, were able to add a pantry cabinet and desk area with storage. Aubrey's cabinet choices gave us better storage in the room we had. We also had a linen closet and another storage cabinet reworked which gave us room for brooms, etc. In short, I was given everything I wanted in the same amount of space. The cabinets are gorgeous -- I don't believe I'll ever get tired of them. Went round and round about color and type of wood and ended up at a place we were trying to avoid when we started, but combination of look and price just made sense. We did some things we weren't going to do in the beginning that were raising the costs of construction, so we decided to save a little on the cabinetry by choosing not to go with upgraded wood types, etc. We did add features such as soft close and pull out shelving, but in the end, we were real happy how it came out and the price was very reasonable. Showplace doesn't charge extra for odd sizes, so we filled all but one space with cabinetry. There was one corner that we had to use a filler piece, otherwise we utilized our space to the max. Kari came up with an idea to put a different color stain on one wall that sits out by itself and we used the cabinetry in a symmetrical way to make that wall appear like a hutch instead of kitchen cabinetry and that came out best of all. After seeing the color on it, almost wish we would have used that color everywhere else. We cut a hole in the wall between our kitchen and garage and built the frig into a little cove so it sits counter depth but is full size, an idea brought up by Kari and the contractor that I was using for the project.
