A: cabinets from wood to gray **Q: Trim color to go with BM Chantilly Lace walls** *(in Paint)* Hi-I'm having the walls in my house painted Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. I want to use a crisper brighter white for the trim, doors, and cabinets. Any suggestions on complimentary colors? I'm leaning towards Super White by B Moore. A: Chantilly lace is Benjamin Moores brightest white super white isn't as bright as Chantilly lace you can do Chantilly lace in a matte or flat finish then the trims in chatilly lace satin or semi gloss for some contrast. **Q: Identity Crisis!: Exterior Facelift Advice** *(in Paint)* We have been working on the interior our first house this summer and fall, but next year I'd like to start working on the exterior/curb appeal. HOWEVER, I am not able to figure out what to do and how to work with what I already have here. I personally like traditional houses with cute details like shutters, etc. However I feel that the natural flow of this house (real estate is VERY limited in our small midwestern town) is more "modern"/"midcentury"/70's. I am desperate to have somebody who knows what. they are looking at tell me how they would categorize this house and what we can do to make it POP! In the comments I will post some of the ideas I have had. However I am TOTALLY open to ideas. Thank you SOOOO much! NOTE: I want to preface this by asking if anyone has negative or critical opinions, please move on to the next post. I had given up on this aspect of houzz because of some people who posted unhelpful comments, but I really do believe in the power of collaboration and live in a SMALL town where there are not many people to collaborate on design. So I'm back, and hopeful that people who have nothing nice to say will move on. A: since the brick has both light and dark earth tones to it, it would be safe going with a gray it will destract the dated brick look of the reddish roof and would bring out the gray tones in the brick and roof bringing a more modern appeal. I would do a mid grey with black front door bright white trims and I would paint the garage door white also. **Q: Looking for exterior paint product recommendations** *(in Polls)* I see this has been asked here fairly recently, but there weren't a lot of comments. I'd like more input before undertaking the monumental task of painting 40-plus louvered wooden shutters. I am willing to take time to do it right, but I need this effort to last a long time because I think it's going to kill me! We're in Pennsylvania, a fairly wooded area. Some shutters get full sun, others are in nearly full shade. These shutters haven't been touched in years, but I think they used to be white. I'm definitely going with a black or near black, probably a semi-gloss or satin, unless someone recommends a different sheen. We do have mildew in the shade, although considering how old the paint job is on the shutters now, it's probably not a terrible problem - it's hard to tell because they're SO filthy. I'm 50-50 on using a paint sprayer versus painting by hand. I understand sprayers can be tricky and difficult to clean, but produce more even results and faster results. I'd have to buy one or use the very small one I borrowed, which might take more time than painting by hand because of the small container - I'm also not sure it's a quality sprayer because my dad probably bought the cheapest thing he could find. Also, I think the weather will change before I can get this project completed outdoors, so I need to consider the difficulty of using a sprayer inside and having space to do a lot of shutters in a single day to avoid repeatedly cleaning a sprayer. I'm already expecting to have to clean them with TSP, sand them, prime them, then paint, but I want the best chance of making the results last. So...without regard to price, which is longest lasting exterior paint considering brutal sun in very hot humid summers as well as humid shade, plus...snowy, wet winters? (Yea, I know. I should just move.) Any thoughts on that sheen question, especially in regard to making the paint last as long as possible? And any advice on spraying versus hand painting, especially considering I have never used a sprayer and might not be able to finish the job outdoors? Also, I don't intend to remove all the old paint - just take off what's easiest to wash or sand away. Is that OK if I'm going from white to black? Thanks for any advice! A: If you are going to paint the outside id recommend buying a good sprayer not a hand held but one that has at least a 25ft hose and you can use it out of a five gallon bucket they can be time consuming to clean but will make the overall job easier. Make sure all the prep work is done right pressure wash it as good as possible and allow at least a day to dry. when working with the shutter like you said scrape and sand down as good as possible if you are not going to prime the whole surface It is very important to spot prime areas that are bare wood or the paint was scraped off of this goes for the house as well . Since the shutters are wood you can go with a peel bond primer from Sherwin Williams one of the best for painting wood serfaces for harsher weather or a multi purpose primer from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams. Since the shutters have some peeling and missing paint spots id go with a satin sheen so that it gives a better finish and does not high light imperfections like a semi gloss or gloss would. For exterior paint Benjamin Moore, Moore life, Moore guard, and Aura are great. From Sherwin Williams id go with Duration or Emerald. **Q: Need Help with Paint Color in the Kitchen.** *(in Paint)* Having trouble coming up with a paint color for our open kitchen, living room, dining area. Very low light area as the only light comes from east ( in morning ) and west in the afternoon ( not direct as we have wooded area on the front of the house. I've posted a picture below perimeter cabinets will be pearl and the island will be smokey hills (charcoal). Thoughts? also adding pendant lights above the island and some slim led canisters in the kitchen and living room. House is a 1977 tri level ranch. Thanks!!!!!!!
