MIK Architecture is a modern-style residential architecture firm working with developers and investors to create desirable and marketable spaces.

The company (founded by Architect Matias Daroch) helps Real Estate Developers, looking to build modern-style residential projects in Miami, get a high-value return on investment; on time, on budget, and delivering the projects with enthusiasm it deserves.

Matias Daroch, AIA, NCARB, and Chilean Registered Architect, came to the US as a developer investing in residential projects. He soon found himself learning zoning codes and building codes in-depth, to better understand them and maximize his return on investment, something few developers took the time to do for their projects. Soon after, he began working and studying until he got his architectural license to practice in Florida and founded MIK Architecture.

Today he works side by side with Chilean architect and developer, Pablo Allamand, in all types of Residential Projects in the Miami-Dade area, ranging from single-family, low-income houses to multifamily projects, going through Luxury housing.

> MIK Architecture was instrumental in helping me design and develop a luxury single family home in the Miami Shores area. The team at MIK was very helpful throughout the entire design and development process and I highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Dwaine Martin, Sept. 2021**

> Use them please. I found them on HOUZZ hunting because all these architects in miami are either overpriced, too busy and don’t know what they are doing. Prior to using Matias my architect before charged the same and didn’t even know my house needed a septic tank. Take it from someone very picky and meticulous. If you are considering them I wouldn’t second doubt it. Personalized, hands on, customer advocate, focus on your needs and not the trend, and the list can go on and on with positive feedback. Will use them again and again

  - Description: This project consisted of the interior remodeling and finishes selection of one of the penthouse units of the North Tower at the renowned Grove at Grand Bay building in Miami, FL. The mission was to harmonize the selection of wall and floor finishes and remodel specific interior spaces. The project had a limited timeframe to design and build the project, which has more than 6,000 SF to cover, not including the exterior private pool area on the top. The design and material selection had to consid…

  - Location: Coral Gables, FL
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This residential nine thousand square foot single-family house with a 120 ft waterfront backyard has a modern-style architectural design with a rotated top volume that gives a particular style to the ever renovating Gables Estates neighborhood. The rare second-level rotated volume makes it both unique and the most significant challenge of the project. Angle finishes and spaces are always a double-edged sword. In addition, each piece of the Stone Facade was dimensioned specifically for the part o…

  - Description: On a beautiful parcel in Pinecrest, this modern-style, single-family residence and designed to maximize the view to the backyard's private forest in two stories, six bedrooms, and seven and a half bathrooms, including a guest or studio area, BBQ, Pool, a cabana and a Maid's bedroom. The lot's trees covered most of the project's area to build, adding to the challenge, the need for a septic tank, which with the program requested signified a significant clear area of Drain Field without changing to…

  - Location: Miami, FL

  - Description: This site is uniquely long and narrow for a typical City of Miami lot. The conception of the project was to build a Workforce Housing Multifamily apartment building with basic amenities and the lowest common area spaces to maintain. The three-story building was allowed to have only stairways, which gave room for better units and less common area costs in the long run. Due to the site's unique long and narrow dimensions for a typical City of Miami lot, the biggest challenge for this lot was to fi…

  - Description: Located in the center of Liberty City, this modern-style, this triplex (three-unit) multifamily building for Workforce Housing, has two stories with half a unit on the ground floor and the rest on the second floor. Being in a narrow and short lot, the design had to maximize the density allowed by code and parking requirements by designing most of the building's units on the second level without compromising on a small one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor, like commonly seen on other project…

  - Description: Meadow's Contemporary House is a single-family model house for a starting or retiring family who wants to escape prominent urban areas without sacrificing contemporary style. Located on a remote semi-developed area on the west coast of Florida, we designed this one-story home to keep the spaces comfortable without sacrificing natural light and open high-ceiling spaces and complying with HOA design restrictions for the exterior looks. Additionally, we looked to design an adaptable model that coul…

  - Description: This condo unit is a dream come true project for a single hardworking client who enjoys natural light and contemporary spaces to live and work without breaking the bank - too much. Our client bought the condo unit at its worst state with ill-maintained walls, dark hallways, and low ceilings and had a clear vision of what he wanted when he approached us. The main challenge was to keep a high ceiling while incorporating an efficient mechanical system in specific areas allowing us to maximize the h…

  - Location: South Miami, FL
  - Photos: 18
  - Description: 5921 at South Miami is a mid-to-large home in a quiet street for an established family looking for a flexible house that can adapt to the new needs of their growing kids. The main challenge was to future-proof this spec-home with potential add-ons in the future such as an elevator space, different bed configurations, and flexible bedrooms to be used as a home office, guest, or even a gym without significantly increasing today's costs. On the other side, the physical challenges of the lot, the la…
- [Byron Ave](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/byron-ave-pj-vj~7294946)
  - Location: Miami Beach, FL
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: Byron Ave is a historically designated multifamily renovation project for a young family looking to enjoy the outdoor-friendly climates while earning passive income at the same time. The main challenge of this project was respecting the historic designation of the existing five-unit multifamily structure while modernizing and reconfiguring the units to accommodate an Owner's unit and two or three rental units. As a historic project, the first step was to determine the Secretary of the Interior's…

  - Description: Seabird Pompano Townhouses is a six-unit townhouse project for beach lovers looking for a house-like property near the sand. The wideness of site helps significantly with the design, however, the side setback requirements in addition to the shallowness of the lot, limited the allowed construction area. Furthermore, the project brief called to maximize the number of units allowed by the city's code (six), while also including a two-car garage on each. This left only some width for the main entran…

  - Description: This restoration project at 88 St was a complete gut and installation project for a family looking for a traditional home in a great location with ample common area spaces. The original structure – run down by the previous owner – required not only an urgent make-up but also a reorganization of the interior layout to accommodate the contemporary living styles. Swapping one of the secondary bedrooms with a newly renovated master bedroom allowed the latter to have a complete view of the rear yard,…

  - Location: Pinecrest, FL
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: 6675 Pinecrest is a large spec home for an established family who enjoys outdoor activities all year round. Both its virtue and challenge was the front yard forest-like entrance that required the house to setback significantly from the street while also trying to gain as much backyard space as possible. Immersing the house in the "forest" while immediately opening its common areas to the backyard's outdoor activities allows a continuous connection with nature through the middle of the house – th…

  - Description: Home Base Living is a residential complex of townhouses and condos for baseball lovers who enjoy healthy well-being. This project's unique long and narrow lot faces the Tampa Rays baseball team's training grounds. However, that same shape of the lot meant that two separate stormwater retention areas would be required to avoid flooding the street and the training fields. Considering the property's unique attributes, we positioned each unit's balcony as a stadium's skybox and gave it further eleva…

Located in a flood zone, the first challenge was to elevate the first level 4 ft from the street elevation, Not enough to have a full ground level, but still high to be challenging. Within the tight lot, we also had additional outdoor activities requirements, such as a pool and outdoor kitchen with dining space. Therefore we design the…

  - Description: Ivanka house is a mid-sized spec home for a family looking to upgrade their starting home in the City of Miami's smaller than the usual five thousand square foot lots. The main challenge of this project was the dedication requirement that took 11 feet of the front of the property, leaving almost a square-sized lot but keeping the same program of at least three secondary bedrooms and the master suite. We accomplished the challenge with a compact, feature-packed design that invites the user into a…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Living Room Design** *(in Photo Questions)*

What a beautiful project. What can you share regarding the flooring and wall colors. Stunning.

A: Hello Cat! Thank you for your comment. Wall are light neutral grey just typical painter drywall and the floor is Vena Grigio from OpusStone, hope this helps!

**Q: what is the flooring material and color name?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the tiling in the main rooms. What is it?

A: Hi Beth!
The floor tile is a Marble stone that we polished to make it matte.
The wall in this picture is a porcelain slab that is about 4 by 8 ft, from Italgres who imports them from Spain.
Hope this answers your question!

**Q: Master Bathroom Cabinet Color Ideas** *(in Remodeling)*

We need to choose the color of our master bathroom cabinets and walls.
Cabinets are floating shaker cabinets (double vanity). The counter top will be Calcutta Laza.
We have selected a off white/ cream colored floor tile. The tile has very thin lines and a little specs of sparkle that shows when light reflects at a certain angle. It will not a predominantly sparkly tile.
The shower walls and floor will be this tile also.
There will be a free standing tub by the wall on the left of the vanity. We have chosen a black porcelain tile with gold veining for the wall behind the tub. We will use this same black tile for a long vertical niche in the shower which is on the wall on the right.
We need suggestions on what color should we paint the cabinets and remaining walls of the bathroom.
Thanks in advance.

A: Hi @multitaskingaddict, sorry for the delay! I didn't notice the message.
Looking at the plan, you could say that while the bathroom isn't small, but it isn't big either. Unless you want the bathroom to feel long, I would go with the lighter color to make the bathroom look wider. So, I think you have three options; white, the countertop grey, or the lighter shade of the floor tile. An excellent next step would put together the samples of the floor with the sample of the counter and try to imagine what is the best intermediary color.

**Q: How to arrange the rooms in this apartment?** *(in Organizing the Home)*

This newly built 47,6 square meter (gross area) apartment is all empty. How do you think I should plan and organize the kitchen, living room, and the bedroom.

Please send me your ideas and suggestions.

The bottom right is the main entrance and the top part is the combined balcony facing outside.

Much appreciated :D

Adam

Short Apartment video

A: Hey @ADAM ERKMEN, your video doesn't work for some reason.

**Q: Small Home Office** *(in Before & After)*

A recent small home office we completed.

The desk / entertainment center removes the clutter of the electronics sitting on the edge of the old desk.

A: Hi! It looks great! And I loved the way you can hide the printer! Small suggestion. Add a desk lamp. It looks like it needs a bit of light.
