> Joyce was a pleasure to work with. She is creative, professional and allowed collaboration of thoughts and ideas. She comes highly recommended.

> Joyce Owens and her team have been designing my forever home on Sanibel Island. Throughout the entire process they have listened closely, adjusted if necessary, and planned thoughtfully, always working with us as part of their team. They provide creative solutions to spaces and collaborate with us on all decisions, large and small. First and foremost, Architect Owens designs for the environment. To say that a barrier island subject to hurricanes is a challenge would be an understatement. Our new house is designed to be resilient in the face of the harsh weather and climate of the area. The firm will continue to work on the project through construction to ensure that everything is built to the specifications and to the vision of the architect and her clients. The design team has communicated with us thoroughly and consistently, providing renderings and details of the plan throughout the process. Our plans are near completion, and we can't wait for the house to be built! I very highly recommend Architecture Joyce Owens and feel so grateful to be working with this team!

> The trendsetting and innovative architectural capabilities of Joyce Owens and her team at AJOP set them apart as leaders in Southwest Florida and beyond. From the start of our project, it was evident we both shared a common desire to build a high-performance energy efficient home for our client. In the end, that mutual collaboration ensured a successful outcome. We look forward to future opportunities to work together.

> We could not have had a better experience with Joyce! She is both professional and so personable; we felt more like family than a client. She was always looking out for our best interest, making sure that our expectations were met while bringing us a top quality product. She worked with so many people to make sure the structure she was designing was not only aesthetically what we wanted but engineeringly sound and secure. She consistently was coming up with creative and unique solutions to any issues we faced while making sure to keep us on budget as well. The plans she designed for our future home are to die for! It was amazing how she took our concepts and ideas and made it into live piece of art - it was not some cookie cutter home but a masterpiece!
>
> Our project was a very unique one because we wanted a very modern home with very specific desires and on a special lot. Her vision was a ray of sunshine literally for our future Floridian home. She came out to see the sight multiple times, met with us on a regular basis and came wherever we needed her to. Her flexibility working with us overseas - Skyping and walking through everything step by step, answering our million questions and making adjustments just the way we wanted. She was timely in everything. We did not have one complaint.
>
> If you want a beautiful home designed just for you by an extremely talented, professional architect - look no further!

> Joyce came up with a very attractive architectural design for our new house! She is very easy to work with. Our neighbors complement us all the time for having the best looking house on the street (there are several new construction houses on same street).

> As a commercial contractor in the Fort Myers area I have worked with many local architects. Over the years I knew Joyce Owens through articles she wrote for the Fort Myers News Press detailing the various architectural styles for many of the local buildings, but we had never worked on a project together. So when I decided to build my own personal house and looked around at the different architects I spent a moment looking at Joyce's website. Well, her website shows some very modern architectural design and really nothing of what we wanted, which was a traditional Florida home with porches, large overhangs, and good cross ventilation of interiors. But she did have a portion of the website called "Tropical Modern". Reading this was intriguing as she spoke convincingly of a commitment to the design elements we wanted. Well, we decided to sit down with Joyce and after the initial discussion challenged her to see if she could meet our expectations. Joyce visited the site and walked around, looked at us and said, "I get it, I understand what you want" and a few days later called us to her office to look at her initial sketches and thoughts. I can't explain how well she met our expectations for the traditional look of a Florida home, and went far further maximizing the views the property has of the canal we live on, the Caloosahatchee River which is roughly 500' from the property, and an old, unique, "leaning" oak tree on the property. While maximizing these views, the floor plan flows very well. We are very excited to finish this up in the next few months and move in, and I sincerely hope this is not the last project we can work on together.

> We worked with Joyce for several months in Spring 2015 in the design phase of a custom
> home to be built in rural Ft Myers. Joyce is a creative talent, with notable attention to detail and approached our project with a sense of practicality, as well. We would refer Joyce to
> anyone who is looking to design and build a custom home, or engage in a major remodeling

> Joyce designed the renovation of a farmhouse in Italy for our family in 2011. She designed the house entirely around the way we live as a family; how we work, entertain, eat, relax, play…. The result is a beautiful contemporary home that is comfortable, spacious, bright and fun to live in. Joyce was professional, thorough and creative in her approach and it was an absolute pleasure to work with her.

**Comment from Architecture Joyce Owens llc:**

> Thanks Niamh!! Having the opportunity to bring an historic property like yours in to the 21c was a privilege. I am flattered that four years later you are still as happy as when you first moved back in. Thank you again!

> My DIY piece-meal kitchen remodeling was chaos. Then I retained Ms. Joyce Owens. She worked around the kinks in my 50-year-old house plan, created a totally different strategy that now fits my needs, resulting in a modern 21st century interior (not just the kitchen) that exceeded my fondest expectations. The result is spectacular.

**Comment from Architecture Joyce Owens llc:**

> Thanks! It's been fun and challenging. I'm glad we are almost done!

**★★★★★ — Jacque (Quinn), Nov. 2014**

> Joyce has always been available to consult with me. I know what I like, and I know just enough to be dangerous about color and texture and materials that go together. However, when you call in a professional who understands lines and spaces like only an architect does, it makes a huge difference. I redid my kitchen, and chose most things myself. I was also limited by the footprint of where my island was - I was not moving that. Joyce didn't try to override my decisions, but she gave me two critical pieces of advice that were game changers and that I appreciate every day. Where I had a corner cabinet (there was one to the left of the sink), Joyce encouraged me to not replace it as it was but end that line of cabinetry at the wall. Those corner cupboards never work anyway, everything gets stuck in the back so you can't get to whatever you put there. It ended up being a much more modern and altogether better look, and the wall of tile gets featured. The other thing she suggested was to do the tall pantry doors that line one wall that leads into the laundry room in white rather than brown so that the pantry wall disappeared. It made the kitchen much brighter and made that wall much less "heavy."
>
> We are moving, and I've decided to hire Joyce to design our next home, a beach house on Sanibel Island. I looked at plans in books, etc, and at what some builders offered, and in five minutes of thinking about it, Joyce had a substantial improvement right off the bat that will be the whole reason the house will work. Can't wait to break ground!

**Comment from Architecture Joyce Owens llc:**

> Thanks Jacque! It's always a pleasure working with you. I am really looking forward to getting the new island house on Sanibel built - a tropical modern treehouse!

**★★★★★ — cccbillrexclay, Aug. 2014**

> Joyce solved a big design challenge and changed the way we live. She was easy to work with and we highly recommend her.

**★★★★★ — gcb1, Aug. 2014**

> Joyce built our house in London 14 years ago. It still works amazingly well. She thinks first about the spaces and the light, so the fundamentals of the house are very well thought-through; but her attention to detail is also great. The house is a constant pleasure to be in: the spaces flow into one another and although all the lines are clean and nothing is messy, it is not difficult to live in. There's masses of space for storage, for example: although Joyce has a powerful aesthetic, she also understands the needs of a family. She was very good to work with: she listens and attends to a brief -= we wanted a house that would work for a family with four children, who were growing up fast - but she brings her own experience and ideas to bear. She persuaded us to build in concrete, which we were initially cautious about, but it turned out to be the making of the house. She is a real pleasure to work with and we always felt we could communicate with her. The house still feels incredibly special.

## Community Q&A

**Q: ipe for railing decking and siding?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Ideally we would use IPE, but in a harsh island location we'll opt for a composite material.

**Q: What is the paint color of the door?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: That door was painted a perfect red ages ago and has long faded to this lovely fuchsia pink. Sorry I can't help. ;-)

**Q: Love, Love , Love!!** *(in Photo Questions)*

It's amazing how you pair all my favorite colors together!! Would love to know the flooring, pillows, blue couch and light wood railing!

A: Glad you appreciate it. The owner and I had a great time putting the whole house together, inside and out.
Floor is oak - don't have the product details with me. But it is STUNNING! Sofa is a new IKEA product. Pillow: owner's own. And the railing is light oak with a dark stained top rail. Custom designed by myself. Hope this helps.

**Q: Love the combination of light wood beams, floor and grey counter!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Countertop material? Door Trim and floor material and color? What is that beautiful teal wall paint color to give it a pop! Looks incredible and right up my alley! We live in Naples and would love to meet you!!

A: Thanks! Surprising the countertop is Plastic Laminate. Flooring: Plyboo Edge Grain Bamboo Flooring, Luminous Grey. Benjamin Moore - Boca Raton Blue 711. The dark grey on the trim is Benjamin Moore- Kendall Charcoal HC-166. Please feel free to give me a call. 239.425.5773

**Q: Love the flooring, what is it? Brand and color please!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Yes - great floor: Plyboo Edge Grain Bamboo Flooring, Luminous Grey. http://www.plyboo.com/products/plyboo-edge-grain-bamboo-flooring
