The great room still has the original paneling. We've interviewed 2 realtors, one of whom assumed we'd get it covered with drywall or at least painted before putting it on the market. The other said, only replace/paint the paneling if it's not too expensive - it suits the period of the house. He doesn't think we'll get good return on the investment. The house is great in many ways, with good traffic flow among the rooms, lots of light, and ample storage. Should we get rid of the paneling, paint it, or just leave it? We DO want to sell the house fairly soon. Thanks for your help! A: Paint the paneling. Many ways to achieve this...Paint the ceiling white. Keep the beams dark and remove the drapes. Remove everything from the fireplace and clean the brick with vinegar and water. With these things done....this room has the wow factor you need to sell this house. **Q: Chandelier advice** *(in Design Dilemma)* I want to switch the ceiling fan with a chandelier.Any advice for chandelier style. A: Look at the Crystorama line of lighting. I see several light fixtures that will work. You should choose something with soft light and no glare. A 1 to 2 foot drop will give you the proper max height from the finished floor. The height of the fixture and ceiling height are factors as well. Rule of thumb unless it is a dining table it is hung over....7 1/2 feet AFF max drop. Libby Langdon has a new lighting line made by this company. **Q: What is the approximate price for each of these hanging shelves?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Beautifully done. **Q: What to do with this wall with light spots?** *(in Design Dilemma)* In my livingroom I wanted something more then a floor lamp. I wanted something special. So I installed 4 spots which lightend up the wall. I also have dimmer so I can adjust the brightness in the evening. I really like the effect, but I'm dazzled what to do further with the wall? A canvas would undermine the effect. I also would like to make it darker beige. Not sure if its going to look nice then? A: I agree with the wall washer trim kit. It will control the light effect washing the wall. The lights are in close vicinity. That said, I suggest using a textured wallcovering, maybe the modern version of grasscloth or a linen look. The color/hue should be darker than the walls by 50 percent. **Q: What decorative item do you ENJOY the most in your home?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Last Friday, sondramartina started a thread "What decorative item do you hate most?" Many people responded with long lists. To have a positive thread on the same topic, what decorative item do you enjoy the most in your home? For me, it is fine art watercolor paintings, framed with conservation matting and museum glass, and hung at MY eye level. A: The balance and flow between beautiful pieces in my home is what inspires me. The mixture of my grandmothers chair reupholstered with a new sofa and vintage coffee table topped with my favorite lamp brings me peace. My home is my refuge and a place of artistic expression.
