> Wendell and I are in the beginning stages of creating a custom farm table for my kitchen. I must say I can't wait to see the results! I've searched high and low for a table in the demension, style and finish I have in mind, it must not exist. I feel so fortunate to have stumbled onto this site. Wendell is most professional and with his first love being an artist I have no doubt he's going to create a masterpiece!
>
> The table was delivered during the holidays and was exactly as I expected! Hand delivered...am considering other projects with him as they arise! Hi Wendell if you read this!

> Geowen created outstanding bookshelves and a bar for my family room. Each cabinet and shelf was hand-crafted and finished with impeccable millwork. Excellent job!

> I hired GEOWEN for work at several jobs, one was for some crown molding and closet doors and the other was a full carpentry work-up. At the first job he did great and was on time so I hired him again for a more complicated job. He installed a full kitchen with the all moldings and extras, installed all the doors and trims, all baseboard and crown. Also he installed the front door and repaired some wall openings. I was very impressed with his professional work and skills. He is not the cheapest bid, but you do get what you pay for. So if your looking for a headache search for a cheaper less skilled carpenter but if you want the job done right go with GEOWEN. Thats my opinion. If anyone wants to see the work he did I would be happy to show them.

> My wife and I have had Wendell Fouts with GEOWEN Custom Carpentry work on our house twice in the past seven years. The first occasion was about 2007 when Wendell remodeled the entire upstairs of our ranch including the kitchen, living and dining room. He custom built a pantry and a fireplace mantle that we’ve received numerous positive comments about from everyone who sees it.
>
> In 2009 we hired Wendell to remodel our master bath and bedroom including the closet and more. He moved walls, built a porch on the back of the house and installed new doors and windows all around. Each time his work has been perfect and within budget and we have gained a new house.
>
> We’ve referred Wendell to many friends who have hired him to remodel rooms, bathrooms and more and each one has been please and referred Wendell to their friends.
>
> We have absolutely nothing bad to say about the professionalism and outstanding quality of the work and highly recommend Wendell and GEOWEN Custom Carpentry.

> Wendell runs a job on time, uses quality control and never promises you something that he can't deliver. He constructed our 3 car garage in 2008 and we love it. Our next project will be the building of our decks and the concrete work around our home. He is excellent at his job and trustworthy.

> GEOWEN Custom Carpentry has remodeled two bathrooms, designed and built custom cabinets and bookshelves for our family room, replaced all the interior baseboards and doors and currently is designing a new kitchen. Wendell Fouts is not only able to "see" what's in my head when make I make a suggestion he is also capable of some very creative solutions to problems I thought were impossible to solve. I won't hire anyone else to do remodeling work at our home.

## Community Q&A

**Q: I HATE MY NEW BUILDER'S KITCHEN, PLEASE HELP!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen in our home that is currently being built has a refrigerator on a wall by itself that is placed between 2 doors. The oversized island, which is pretty basic, is most likely the reason why no cabinets were placed on the wall with the refrigerator. The attached photos are of a similar kitchen in the same model (my cabinet size and color/stone/cooktop etc. are different but the layout is basically the same). I was not aware of the poor layout prior to signing the contract. What can I do to make this kitchen more appealing? The builder, K.Hovnanian, is not willing to allow changes so my husband and I will have to pay for a fix after the closing.

A: You sound like a person really tired of dealing with your builder. Many reasons go into the design they have there. Some are sound, based on footprint and traffic flow. Other reasons based on budget and market trends.
I don't know why you think there should be wall cabinets on the fridge wall, with there being 2 doorways, a pantry, a fridge, a dbl oven and all the traffic those will have. It just looks like a blank wall?
I like the layout. How big is the pantry? Put a door on it. I put a pocket door in a pantry some months ago, with the frosted glass that’s trendy now. Cool! From what I can tell from 2 pictures, it’s a huge room. Live in it like it is for a year. Figure out what works and what doesn't. You will learn how to use your kitchen differently than you use your current kitchen. It’s all about footsteps and being efficient. So when your "tools" are spread out you learn to work different. Maybe the island can be rotated 90 degrees. Put a prep sink in it, or the cook top. That way the end of the island can be closer to the fridge to hold product going in or out. And then the Bar stools are not in the way of the fridge or pantry traffic. You should have a minimum of 36” between countertops.
CAUTION. Mina’s plan puts the fridge in a corner and the cooktop in a corner, both very ill-advised. This summer I did a small job to move their fridge off the wall so the door could open all the way. These new fridge doors are big. Have you ever stood at a stove with your hip against a drawer handle?
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

**Q: glass** *(in Photo Questions)*

I like the glass doors, do you remember what type of glass this is?
thanks :)

A: Oh my gosh, I never saw this question. I'm so sorry. This glass came from some old St. Louis City carriage house doors that got removed for new doors. The glass must be 80-100 yrs old and I was able to recut it for this project. This is a very cool old pattern you won't see any where else. I have several more boxes of glass salvaged from old carriage house doors, different patterns.
Thanks for asking.

**Q: Carpet** *(in Photo Questions)*

What colour is this carpet?

A: The client contracted for the floor finishes here. I don't know brand or color. It is like an oatmeal. Pretty light in tone with dark flecks.
