We are first time homeowners and were working on a tight timeline to have the entire interior of the home redone before moving in. We wanted to create separate spaces in a mostly open floor plan and also be sensitive to the age of the house (1875). I'm very indecisive and was struggling with choosing the right colors. I was also trying to be budget conscious, so the idea of spending money on a color consultant seemed excessive. In hindsight I would have paid Amy more than her very reasonable rate for the quality of her consultation and the amazing end results! She asked lots of questions via email and a more formal questionnaire. We used a Pinterest board with inspirational photos along with the property listing as the starting point for our phone consultation. During our call, I felt like Amy truly got to know me and my husband and understand what we were hoping to achieve in our new space. I loved the time with her, she's so warm and gave the process a really personal touch! Since our painters were scheduled shortly after our call, Amy expedited delivery of the paint color samples and helped us select floor stain and kitchen backsplash colors, too. First was our kitchen – we installed natural cherry cabinets and a gorgeous dark granite countertop. But what color for the walls? They needed to be a backdrop – the wood and the granite are the stars. Beigey was blah, other colors I looked at were too pushy. Finally I smartened up and called Amy. She selected a muddy green; I thought “no way!”, and requested a “prettier” green. Amy complied with my request and sent samples, but (gently!) told me they weren’t right. After seeing the samples with the cabinets and counter, I had to agree. So I went with her choice - and boy, did she nail it! The color plays beautifully with the granite and the cherry without getting in the way. Gorgeous! > > Amy also came to the rescue when we redid our bathroom. We knew we wanted white tile – how hard can it be to pick white tile? We could handle that – NOT! The tile was almost all up when we realized with a sinking feeling it was wrong, wrong, wrong. This was our master bath – the first room we see in the morning, and the last we see at night. After a lot of hand-wringing and self-flagellation, we had the contractor take it down. We called Amy and confessed our sins. She helped us pick the right tile, and we couldn’t be happier. A: It's a beveled subway tile, now discontinued, but you can easily find a substitute. The flooring was original to the house, probably from a local mill, and the stain was custom-mixed. I'm sorry that isn't very helpful. I always tell my clients that stain is an art and not a science.
