> The Dovetail team built a beautiful sunroom and deck for us. Jon did a great job with converting the architecture diagram into an actionable plan. The team was dedicated, punctual, friendly and had a great attention to detail. They handled all aspects of the construction, including suggestions of materials to be used, supply chain / procurement and management of all contractors.

> From the moment I read Jonathan’s bio, phoned him, and he answered, I thought I was transported back to the days of excellent client service, and I was! I have to report that working with Jonathan, his one person crew, and his subs, he/they performed exceptionally from project design to project completion. His attention to detail in every aspect from project design, to keeping construction zone totally separate from our living space, to his precise custom craftsmanship and abilities, made this project seem like a textbook example. It couldn’t have gone better and we are thrilled with our two newly customized and constructed new library and den. In fact, when selecting new fireplace stone, the office manager remarked that she wanted Jonathan to train others in the business on how to do it right! Thanks to Houzz, I found Dovetail Group LLC (Jonathan), and I have no reason to look further!

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thanks Dana! There is no better client for a craftsman than one who has an idea but encourages the craftsman to take the lead and implement the vision. Our projects with you and Micheal really allowed us to design creatively and then execute with high quality and attention to detail. For us that means they were challenging and FUN at the same time! Thanks!

> We imagined that it would be a major challenge for any design team to take over the renovation of this 70 yr. old home hence we sat with Jonathan Scholl , owner of the Dovetail Group team and gave them our ideas and concerns.
> One of the largest projects was removing 37 windows that were cemented into the structure of the masonry. No other window company we talked to had an idea this would be so time consuming.
> The custom front door is the conversation of the neighborhood. It is most unique, constructed of several types of woods, “rain drop” designed glass in an Art Deco style.
> What is most appealing is the foyer of this home. With precision, Jonathan transformed the never used foyer into a beautiful Art Deco Style entrance using imported crème marble flooring with center medallion.
> The final portion of this renovation was the custom style “She Shed” (thank you Jonathan) built to replicate the lines of the home using like colors and design.
> I am impressed with how Jonathan went through the explanation of the quality of materials used in the entire renovation process.
> This Mediterranean 2 story stucco home had little upkeep for 7 decades but Jonathan listened and his ideas, advice, honesty and total involvement were most valuable in transforming our home to the showcase of the community.
> The renovation of this home is one of a kind and I’m sure it will bring us years of pleasure – thanks to the Dovetail group!

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thank you Rosie and Jim. Your home is unique in its construction details and overall style. We really wanted to highlight those features as we worked with you on a
> renovation plan and process. From the window styles, to the exterior paint colors, to the light fixtures, to the fabulous Front Foyer.....we are thrilled that everything came together and the neighborhood is taking notice! You guys were great to work with and deserve all the enjoyment the new renovations will give you. Designing and building a custom She Shed for all of your gardening projects was a fun way to wrap up the project!

> The scope of work that was needed in our house spanned three bathrooms, a powder room, and a laundry room. Out of the three bathrooms we only had one that was functioning (just about!), that was our Master Bathroom which was split between two rooms, one room contained the bath and shower, but the twin vanity was in an adjoining area in our bedroom separated by a door, which we did find terribly inconvenient.
>
> The other two bathrooms were not used because one of them leaked, so every time the tub with a handheld shower was used we ended up having the repair the kitchen ceiling that was directly beneath. The other was so old that when the shower was turned on there was an incredibly loud grinding noise that was unbearable to tolerate. All the bathrooms were extremely old in décor, and not our style, but more importantly, none of the bathrooms functioned correctly.
>
> The laundry room was just a small space with torn vinyl flooring, a washer and dryer side by side, and stained plastic utility sink, leaving not much space for anything else, the type of room you never wanted to be in. The powder room downstairs was a dull, small and cramped, the vanity was too large, the tile on the floor and grout was supposed to be white in color but looked dull and dirty no matter how much I cleaned it to the extent that I cringed from embarrassment every time we had guests over that asked to use it.
>
> As a family of four with two working parents, everyone had been using our master bathroom for the past 12 years, the traffic through our bedroom was unexpected and extremely congested every morning trying to get the family to work and school. With chaotic lives we never had the chance to renovate, the idea was too overwhelming with the scope of work that was needed, and we had heard some horror stories about getting the wrong contractors to do the work, leaving the job unfinished and of poor quality. But we decided to get some professional help when even the master bathroom started falling apart.
>
> After getting a few quotes and interviewing several contractor companies, I knew immediately that I could work with Dovetail. I was extremely impressed by the expert knowledge and personal skills demonstrated by Jon Scholl when he first arrived at our house to review the extent of the work and his reassuring “can do” attitude.
>
> Jon and his team worked with us to interpret our goals and expectations into accurate 3D plans of what our vision was. He helped us choose all the materials for each of the rooms, providing expert guidance and a unique perspective along the way when it came to making choices (and there were a lot of choices that had to be made!). Jon also was able to custom make cabinets and sliding doors ensuring that the modern concept, flow, and connectivity that we wanted throughout the entire house was incorporated. The standard of quality and artistry to which Jon delivered our entire renovation project exceeded our expectations. The spaces were completely designed for modern living where form followed function, and the project was completed from start to finish within 8 months. We love and enjoy every space that Dovetail created, each room is truly a work of art.
>
> Jon and his team also became part of the family, they were polite and pleasant to have around, and always left the house clean every day when they finished their work. There were no problems only creative and innovative solutions which we were always impressed by. I would highly recommend Dovetail for any home renovations.

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thank you Fiona for your thoughtful and enthusiastic review! The entire Dovetail Team really enjoyed implementing the transformations that you and Donald wanted to make. The modern, clean aesthetic that we worked to develop with you for your spaces are truly refreshing in this age of Toll Brothers blah! We appreciate you adding some photos of the finished spaces and for reference...may I show what the spaces looked like before we started? Quite the transformation!

**★★★★★ — Sara C Schwartz, April 2020**

> When my husband was ill and needed to live downstairs, Dovetail Group LLC turned what had been an office space into a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Jon Scholl and his group did a fantastic job - very professional, fast, clean, neat and at a very fair cost. Dovetail did such a good job that when I needed all new doors and windows throughout the house two years later I hired Dovetail again, and again they did a fantastic job, taking care to do everything to not upset the routine of my work. The Living Room had a huge picture window that they took particular care with, and now everything looks beautiful. And his workers are so pleasant and helpful. Dovetail made such a difference! Much appreciated. I am going to hire Dovetail again to update bathrooms and kitchen. Sara C Schwartz

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thanks so much Sara! We appreciated the opportunity to help create a safe space for Sandy in his time of need. So glad that our efforts brought comfort and peace of mind to the both of you. When you called for our assistance with replacing all of your doors and windows we were happy to help again. All of our guys have enjoyed working at your property and we've all taking a liking to the dogs. We look forward to assisting on the bathroom and kitchen projects when you are ready! Best Regards....Jon Scholl

**★★★★★ — Carmine Rauso, Dec. 2016**

> Jon and the whole team at Dovetail Group have been fantastic to work with. We spent over a year designing our project, which included a whole house remodel, as well as an addition. We were always impressed with Jon's approach to design...more focused on how we live and use the space and solving problems that we had with the "old" house. Once demo and construction started, the crew were meticulous in cleaning up after themselves every day, even though we weren't even living in the house. Jon was again highly detail oriented, honest and up front, and just a pleasure to work with. We couldn't be more pleased with how the project is progressing, and our new house. We would highly recommend Jon and Dovetail Group to anyone in the market for this type of work.

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thank you Carmine and Debbie! Working with clients such as yourselves, who have some previous experience in the build process along with some pretty strong ideas about what they want to achieve yet are still open to our suggestions for design and build-ability makes the process fun and rewarding for everyone!

**★★★★★ — User, Dec. 2015**

> We hired Dovetail to rehab our outdated kitchen in our 1924 era stone house. This was a challenging job since the new design had to fit in limited space and use some existing cabinet boxes. Jon helped us with design and was patient in working through surprises after pulling cabinets out. We added a new paneled back splash to the list along the way, and asked for repairs on existing pine floors at the last minute. Jon accommodated all of our additions with patience. Jon is very easy to work with and I valued his design sense and expertise during the project. He was very responsive to all of my questions and concerns throughout the project.

**★★★★★ — carole855, Dec. 2015**

> Our 1970's kitchen was transformed by Dovetail Group LLC into a magnificently current area to create culinary delights. The planning process with Jon was organized, focused on our needs, filled with discussions of possible options and pleasurable. The agreed upon time line was honored and fulfilled. No workable kitchen for 3 1/2 weeks could have been a nightmare, but Jon made it as easy as possible for us. He was respectful, honest, had a good sense of humor and a joy for us to work with.
>
> Our cabinets received new doors, hardware, new drawers constructed and a trash/recycle center added. We went from dark to white cabinets making the area brighter and a center
> of focus for our condo. Creative lighting including an original ceiling configuration, under cabinet and recessed fixtures made a dim area come alive! Cork flooring, new appliances, a subway tile backsplash with an accent piece and a new breakfast bar completed our
> journey to this renovated project.
>
> We are delighted and would highly recommend Dovetail Group LLC to anyone taking on a project. Working together, we were able to stay within our budget adding only agreed upon
> Changes.

> Jon Scholl and the Dovetail group did a very nice job remodeling two of my bathrooms this past year. One of the bathrooms was a complete remodel. The plumbing had to be switched around, new vanities were made, soffits made, new die walls cast for the shower, a complete remodel. Jon's expertise really seems to be in woodworking. The molding around the room, aligning the soffit with the die walls for the shower was difficult and well done. The design of the vanity was very well done. Jon has a great sense of symmetry, making sure that the grout lines in the bathroom all lined up, and lining up the moldings with the top of the die walls and framing the room all made the room look very good. There were some mistakes made along the way but Jon was very quick to recognize them, take ownership and correct all of the mistakes. In the end, the finished project looks very much the way I envisioned it on paper and in pictures and that is a testament to Jon's work.

**★★★★★ — pac01, March 2015**

> This project involved gutting the kitchen and starting from scratch which was like poking in the dark at times to see what final configuration might work. Jon Scholl never gave up trying to find the optimum solution for our kitchen requirements. Repeatedly he presented options, samples and suggestions for how to proceed which included everything - flooring, cabinets, counters, backsplash, lighting and appliances. He was creative with the kitchen island, the window touch over the sink, and the glass tile positioning of the backsplach. Jon never tired of the project and took pride in the work he did just as we took pride in the results.

**Comment from Dovetail Group LLC:**

> Thanks Patty. Gut renovations can be a real process since they involve so many items and options to consider. In this age of "Extreme Makeover!" people generally don't understand and appreciate the hard work ....by homeowner and contractor...that goes into creating a really successful space. I appreciate all of your help in working with me to create a really neat kitchen that also performs well for you and your family!

**★★★★ — knappkitchen, Jan. 2015**

> Dovetail did a great job helping us prep for upcoming work so we were able to save money in some areas. The attention to detail was great and the suggestions for materials and design very helpful.
>
> We did T&M due to some work of which we didn't know the extent so I was worried about it but in the end we came within the budget range and the finished job looks great.

**★★★★★ — jenneric7, Aug. 2014**

> We have a large family – 5 children, and we needed a kitchen that would be both classic and relaxed. Prior to the renovation the kitchen had cold, white cabinets, white corian counter-tops, hard tile flooring and the design did not take full advantage of the beautiful view of our backyard. We also had a very large butcher block from my wife’s grandmother that she wanted to incorporate into the kitchen without it being big and clumsy. Jon has such incredible vision and managed to give us everything we wanted. The tile flooring was replaced by hardwood that he matched to the original hardwood in the house. He transformed our view by angling the island so we had a completely different view of the backyard. He incorporated the butcher block in such a manner that it is noticeable and useable but not obtrusive adding even more character. The result was the kitchen of our dreams, which is extremely functional for a family of 7. Jon’s work is Impeccable and his ideas and vision are excellent. We are very happy with our kitchen and will use him for any other renovation we do in the future.

  - Description: For this renovation project, we tackled an outdated 1950s kitchen in our client’s historic home. Built in 1908, the single family residence has smaller rooms and the kitchen area was strictly for cooking…not for entertaining. We focused our designs on enlarging the kitchen by extending the cabinetry past the wonderful arched opening to include the coffee bar area and a funky-fun powder room. We then connected the kitchen to the period dining room by removing the load bearing partition wall that…

  - Description: Spring is in full spring and it’s time to breathe new life into old spaces. Imagine this: a charming late 19th-century house nestled in the heart of West Chester, its front porch evoking stories of the past. However, time had taken its toll, and the once-sturdy porch was now pulling away from the house, its brick piers and foundation deteriorating and structural integrity compromised. Our team of skilled craftsmen undertook a comprehensive renovation project aimed at restoring the structural int…

  - Description: For this renovation project, we elevated the style of our client’s foyer and powder room. The original tile flooring in the foyer and powder room was replaced with new Brazilian Cherry hardwood, which had to be custom woven into the existing dining room flooring so that there were no transitions. All areas were then sanded, stained, and clear coated to match the rest of the floors throughout the first floor. The powder room was completely renovated into a space of elegance and details. - Description: Our client’s renovation journey began with a sewer line break in their basement. Instead of seeing this as a homeowner’s worst nightmare, they saw it as an opportunity to reimagine the whole space. DOVETAIL worked with them to design and build a fantastic hangout spot that is cool enough for their Gen Z children yet functional enough for a family movie night or a guest to spend the weekend. After discussing possible design aesthetics, we decided that an industrial chic look would allow for some…

  - Location: Wayne, PA
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: As homeowners, we often find ourselves needing more space, more organization, and more practicality within our living area. While you may consider expanding your home with an addition, a creative and transformative option is to convert an existing space. For this project, we converted half of a two car garage into a stylish and organized mudroom. Our client needed a space to serve as a central hub for their busy lives – a place to store coats, shoes, backpacks, and sports equipment. With active…

  - Description: Older homes often come with boxy room layouts that do not align with today’s preferences for connectivity between spaces. Our client wanted to modernize their home by creating a more open floor plan between the family room and the kitchen plus an update to the overall style of the spaces. We removed an upper wall section between the family room and the kitchen, added a stylish, modern countertop with bar sink and seating, complemented by a custom designed and built fireplace surround plus new fl…

  - Location: Kennett Square, PA
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This project involved transforming a disorganized four-car garage into a well-coordinated and functional storage space for both cars and belongings. The garage had a mixture of storage solutions in place, but they were being used haphazardly leading to proverbial chaos. Our client wanted a place for everything and everything to be in its place. We took an inventory of what needed storage and specific zones that needed to be created to bring organization to the space. On the right-side wall, we c…

  - Description: Our client was looking to enhance their front foyer and dining room by adding visual interest to the spaces with custom, Colonial Revival mouldings, wallpaper, and paint. After much review and consideration, we implemented a "hierarchical" approach where secondary openings at the hallway, kitchen, and porch are less formal using only casing and plinth block mouldings, while the formal living room openings are accentuated using a curved, bolection entablature that "connects” the cased opening to…

  - Description: This project was the addition of a warm, airy, and inviting sunroom and deck to the back of our client’s home. They wanted a comfortable space to relax and host family gatherings both inside and out. The existing hardscape patio off the kitchen was replaced with the sunroom and an attached deck. By enlarging the opening from the kitchen directly into the sunroom, we improved the flow of the home and included much more space for them to entertain. The deck flows down to a new hardscape patio so t…

  - Location: West Chester, PA
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: The goal of this project was to open up the staircase in the foyer of the home. The existing staircase was “builder grade” and without stature. Our client wanted the staircase to be more open, more interesting, and more welcoming! The staircase wall on the right side was pushed back to show off more stair treads, railing, and balusters. The opening to the neighboring sitting room was made larger to make the space more inviting. It allowed us to add a newel post, handrail, and balusters to that s…

  - Location: West Chester, PA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Our client wanted to create a luxurious guest bathroom in their home. They do not have children, so we merged two kids’ bathrooms into one to create a larger, modern guest bath. Both bathrooms were demoed and the partition wall between the two spaces was removed. We converted one of the existing bathtubs into a walk-in, tiled shower. The toilet was relocated which required significant plumbing updates to the room. We also needed to change the location of the vent stack because it was in the part…

  - Description: For this project, our client wanted to convert a large 20' x 30' sunroom into a music conservatory with room for a grand piano and a comfortable seating area. They have many books and artifacts to display from their travels, so the desire for floor-to-ceiling display bookcases was the focus of this project. Our client also had an intricate stained glass panel that they wanted to showcase and also easily move around within the space. We designed a custom rolling stand with LED backlighting which…

  - Description: The kitchen is often the heart of the home. This renovation project combined three spaces in the client's home to unify the kitchen, dining, and breakfast room areas. The result is a kitchen that functions better with more seating, meal preparation areas, and storage. It is also the perfect spot to host gatherings. The existing galley kitchen was demoed to the studs. The wall that separated the kitchen and dining room was removed to open up the area so it is a large connected space with an islan…

  - Description: A garden trellis is a perfect addition to a yard. For this project, we dressed up an old concrete pad left from the original cow barn on the property and built a custom garden trellis. The trellis rafters were created from large mahogany beams with fancy scroll cut ends that were purchased at an auction. - Description: Front porches are a great place to relax with family and friends. The renovation of this porch added architectural dimension and character to the house while becoming an integral gathering space. In keeping with our client's “authentically relaxed” style, we incorporated a design aesthetic of mixing real antique barn posts and weathered siding with low maintenance TimberTech decking, Boral trims, and a standing seam metal roof. To ensure maximum use through the seasons, we added an in-ceiling, i…

  - Description: This open area was a side room off the main foyer of our client’s home. It was an underutilized space that the homeowners wanted to turn into a unique area for entertaining. We transformed the room into a modern, one-of-a-kind bar. A stunning wine bar, keg, and seating for up to 8 people make this the perfect place to entertain and relax with guests!

  - Description: This library renovation is every book lover's dream. Our client wanted a library to showcase his book collection and have a sitting area to cozy up by the fire to read. The challenge for this project was to design a space with classic details that was comfortable, not ostentatious. The room needed to hold a maximum number of bookshelves, but still accommodate windows for natural light and a fireplace for warmth. Many custom details were incorporated including a stunning coffered ceiling using ar…
