Darlene Graeser is a clinical psychologist by day, prolific painter by night. The hyperactive Darlene has little need or use for sleep. Darlene spent her nights wandering around the house and pondering her day, until she discovered that she could ponder just as well with paint and canvas.

After one of her early paintings was featured on the cover of The American Psychologist, a one-woman show mounted in Santa Barbara sold out on the first night and the large colorful canvases she favors were stacked three deep in her studio, Darlene finally accepted the inevitable hyphen and is now Darlene Graeser, Psychologist-Artist or Artist-Psychologist, depending on the time of day.

For over 32 years she has born witness as people shared their stories in an effort to understand how to put meaning to their suffering. Her flamboyance, humor, empathy, and wisdom have guided many towards transformation. Certainly, her art is a reflection of the lessons that she has learned from these courageous people.

Over and over again wings appear in her art - her way of expressing the eternal mystery of life and death. Her newest work is a culmination of many years of working in the field of Death and Dying. Her wonderment is reflected in massive and unusual angels who are privy to a distant view of earth.

Loss, Disappointment, Love, Joy, Shock, Longing, and brazen sexuality are all part of these images from the 'other side'.

**Q: where did you find the variety of colored tile pieces?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I wish to do a mosaic art piece on my studio floor

A: I got all my tile for this project at Dal Tile, but this is from 20 years ago and all the colors might not be available anymore.

**Q: How much would you sell a chair like this for** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The last one sold for $6,500.  It would depend on the design that the buyer would want.  Somewhere between $5,000 and $7,000.  BTW--I'm not trying to be snotty, but its an enormous amount of work.  Smaller chairs like this one are considerably less.  Thanks for inquiring.

**Q: Floor** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please tell me the floor paint color---I assume it is painted concrete.  Thanks

A: Actually it is a Pressboard flooring with many coats of Dunn-Edwards Syn-Lustro Gloss Enamel in Red.  It has held up for years of abuse and use.

**Q: What colour should I paint this fireplace?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have this hideous black tile fireplace surround. I would love to rip it out and replace it but for now I will just have paint it. The tile has a ripple texture which you may be able to see in the second photo. The wall is a taupe colour and the carpet is a pale honey. What colour and finish(gloss/matte?) would you suggest painting it given the colours in the room and the texture of the tile.Thanks in advance Houzzers!

**Q: White vs. Black Kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have an opportunity to put in a brand new kitchen, any way and any color we want. I see a lot of renovations with Black kitchen cabinets, while most of the model kitchens are presented with White kitchen cabinets. What do you think? White vs. Black Kitchen? What works better practically?
