## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the paint color and brand?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you for your question.  The interior paint is a Sherwin Williams paint selection.  Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the paint selection for this room.  I will continue to look and let you know when I find it.

**Q: Can a tile floor cause your cabinets to be shorter** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I had a complete kitchen remodel.  Recently, I found out from another contractor that my cabinet height with counter top is not the standard 36" high.  My cabinets with counter tops are 35" high.  The contractor who did the kitchen remodel is saying it is because of the tile floors put in after the cabinets.  That the extra leveling of the tile floor is what caused the cabinets to be shorter.  Aren't contractors supposed to take into account the floor and counter top when determining how to install the cabinets so when the kitchen is completed the cabinets should be 36" high?  The tile floor extends into the areas of all the appliances

My stove sits above the counter top when it was designed to be flush with the counter tops.

A: A flooring back order or material defect may make it necessary to install the cabinets first.  Although,  I would always recommend laying the flooring under the cabinets when possible (exception, floating wood floor).  The cabinets should have been raised equal the flooring selections.  If the flooring was not installed,  the GC or cabinet company should know to ask about the height of the flooring.  
How to fix:  I would suggest a raised metal flange that matches the appliance.  A metal fabricator can custom make if for you and it isn't that expensive.  Installing granite pieces would bring attention to the area your trying to hide most.

**Q: what size is each tile?** *(in Product Questions)*

A: If the measurements are right above it is each number divided by 3. 3 wide by 3 high. so 3.41" by 3.5" approx.  Minus some for grout joint 1/8" maybe.

**Q: This SNOUT HOUSE needs a NOSE JOB!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My daughter recently bought a fantastic house in a great neighborhood...the dilemma? The facade is all garage! If that's not bad enough, it has an ugly dark brown roof and an awkward roofline to boot.  Since it's her first house, she is cash strapped so the budget is limited to DIY projects.
My initial thoughts? A new paint color, a railing around the porch, maybe shutters on the window above the garage and carriage-style garage doors?  I'm really grasping for ideas to transform the garage into a pretty focal point instead of an eyesore.  Help!
(Don't mind the patrol car in the drive, both she and her man work for the local police department.)

A: Pam,
I don't think adding a false gable flush with the existing fascia will look good.  At a minimum I would say it has to come out 12 to 16 inches past the existing fascia.  At that point it would make sense to go the extra distance.  I hope this helps and doesn't make it any more confusing for you.
