Well here we are on January 14 over a month late and the job still isn’t done. This builder has mistakenly on our part already been paid the complete project amount which should not have been as a quarter of the total project amount was supposed to be due upon completion which hasn’t happened yet. We have since completed the renovation to their approval and, because of our commitment to our customers' satisfaction, we continue to perform warranty work at their request. When this review was written the homeowner was particularly frustrated with the cabinet company which had made some mistakes during the project. The cabinet installer did correct everything, but the homeowner was understandably frustrated (as were we) during the installation. > > Finally, in response to the timeline and payment concerns expressed by the homeowner in his review: both of these issues were due to change orders made at the homeowner's request. The payments already made at the time of his review did total up to the amount of the initial contract; however, there had been several change orders made that had increased the total amount due. What is the accent tile?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Sorry, but I don't have the exact information on all of the tile that was used, but I can tell you what I do remember. The wall tiles are tumbled travertine. My guess would be 12x12 on the field, 4x4 on the accent feature. The small dark tiles on the wall are 1x1 squares of dark emperador marble. If memory serves me correctly, the rope detail on the wall is a resin based tile. The floor and ceiling tile is a 1x1 travertine mosaic. I hope this helps! **Q: Wall color** *(in Photo Questions)* What is the wall and trim paint color? A: The wall color is Sherwin Williams color Realist Beige - SW 6078. When we first painted the interior we were a little nervous because it has a slight purple tint. But once all the flooring and cabinetry were installed it really brought out the brown tones and gave us a perfect end result. It's not overwhelmingly brown and it doesn't look too light either. I can't recall what the trim color is, but my guess would be Swiss Coffee as that is the most common "white" color that we use in our jobs. Good luck on your next project! **Q: Shutters? Color?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Should I add shutters to my home? Should they match the accent siding? Help!? A: I think that shutters would look great on your home! It would break up the brick a little bit. As far as color, I think it is a matter of personal preference. However, I would probably either match the shutters with the trim color or select a third color that compliments the existing colors and paint the front door to match (see some examples in the pictures below). **Q: Granite seam in middle of sink cabinet or in line with 70/30 sink divi** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have a 70/30 sink. My contractor placed the granite seam at the center of the sink cabinet so that it would line up with the center of the 2 doors below. It is in the larger bowl and is 3 or 4 inches from the sink divider. I thought it would be better to have the seam in line with the divider and faucet. I have enough material left over for him to redo it. Which would be the better location for the seam? Thank you!! A: I agree with Absolute Plus Kitchen. A picture would be helpful, but typically we put the seams in the middle of the sink to line up with the cabinets as well. **Q: Dropped ceiling- need urgent help** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hello We have a new construction going on. We took a small idea from one of the pictures on houzz.com and planned a dropped ceiling in the kitchen over the Island. We paid for this(500$). Not a lot considering the total cost of the house. However we are very confused if this is a design disaster. Our initial plan was to put pendants in the middle and 4 recessed lights at the corners. Please advise. I could ask the builder to cut it off now. See attached picture. The ceiling is 9'. Style is transitional. Thanks A: If you have seen a picture with this look that you really liked, then it might work out okay if you stay committed to everything in that design (maybe post that picture on this thread). However, a lot of the new build and remodel work that we are seeing is trending toward cleaner lines with a "less is more" philosophy. If they have ceiling soffits, they tend to be on the outside walls. Here are a few pictures of kitchen islands with pendant lighting that we have done that might help with your decision. Good luck! **Q: Design Delima - Redesigning a Difficult Master Bath/Closet Space** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are trying to decide the best way to renovate a master bath space.Between the master and the bath room is a total area of 108x136 comprised of a bath 48x136, a single vanity area, and a closet (Current Layout). We are considering 3 options, but are limited by a load bearing wall with sewer from upstairs bath between the spare master vanity and master bath. The home is a 4 bed 2 bath. The dimensions do not allow a tub or 60" vanity as configured due to windows, doors and plumbing. We believe it would be best to add a compact half bath. We are concerned about how the proposed layouts could affect resale value and appeal. Please review the attached renderings and share any thoughts of what might be best for the renovation of this space. Many Thanks! A: In a two story house, a bathroom that can be accessed by guests on both floors is critical, but a private master bathroom is perhaps even more important to most people. If I am understanding you correctly, both proposed layouts 1 & 3 will accomplish this. I think that will be a big improvement when it comes to re-sale value. I like layout 1 best because it gives you a bigger master closet and it will be cheaper to do as well (you don't have to redo as much plumbing).
