**★★★★★ — Plumb Level Square, Oct. 2018**

> It was a pleasure working with Distinctive Kitchens in bringing an idea to life. We enjoy working with experienced designers who are so hands on. From start to finish, the working relationship we had was easy and stress-free, plenty of communication to make sure our efforts matched the creative eye in this remodel. As you can see in the attached photos, the turn out was remarkable.

**★★★★★ — Julissa Robles, May 2018**

> Ali helped us remodel our small dated bathroom space. This was our first home project and we were overwhelmed. So we reached out to Distinctive Kitchens and Ali came to the rescue! We were impressed by her creativity, efficiency, organization, and humor throughout the project. She listened to us, got a sense for our taste, and worked with us to carry out our vision. She paid attention to every detail and also ensured that our bathroom would be functional for our family as well as gorgeous. The result was a stunning space that was bigger and more beautiful than we had imagined. We highly recommend Ali!

**★★★★★ — debraheather, March 2018**

> Ali helped guide us through our kitchen remodel and came up with fantastic, creative ideas about the layout and the fixtures. I had no idea how many small decisions we needed to make, so I was so glad to have Ali to help us with everything from tile and paint, to layout and cabinet style. You would be lucky to work with her!

**Comment from Distinctive Kitchens:**

> Thank you Debra! It was a pleasure working with you!

**★★★★★ — Staci Foster, Jan. 2017**

> I absolutely loved working with Ali! She really took the time to understand what I was going for in our new kitchen. Her ideas were always welcome and really elevated the ideas we originally had. She thought of things that we hadn't, which advised us in a way that created a truly functional and beautiful kitchen.

**★★★★★ — Wynne H Earle Creative Consulting, Oct. 2016**

> Allison is not only an incredible kitchen designer, but she is also an absolute joy to work with!!! Her infectious energy and positivity is only surpassed by her extraordinary taste and attention to both detail and aesthetics. I had the pleasure of photographing some of her recent kitchen remodels, and those images (to our delight) received quite a lot of attention from major appliance vendors. Her Tudor remodel was also the featured kitchen for the Seattle Magazine October Home issue. She is a rising star in the industry, and I couldn't recommend her more!

**★★★★★ — lucy anderson, May 2016**

> We can't thank Ali enough for all that she did for us! She's quite a designer! What a transformation! Her ideas were so integral to the final design of the kitchen. She was so easy to work with and guided us in the direction we wanted. Ali took us to showrooms and helped us make decisions we didn't know needed to be made. She has a very creative eye and knack for detail! Our home is a 1929 Tudor. She helped us make tasteful modern updates, while keeping the integrity of our old Tudor home. Her knowledge about cabinetry, flooring, lighting, appliance placement, kitchen essentials, and all details were so helpful. Thank you, Ali! We are so happy with how it turned out! We recommend her highly.

> I've worked with Distinctive Kitchens on two full kitchen remodels, and can recommend Ali without reservation. She has a knack for matching design inspiration with a home's existing character and vintage. Her attention to the projects' details -- including on-site management of subcontractors' work -- ensured that the finished product met (and exceeded!) our expectations both times.

## Selected projects

- [Admiral Tudor--Before & After](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/admiral-tudor-before-and-after-pj-vj~1371719)
  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 33
  - Description: For the Admiral Tudor kitchen, we wanted a rich, textured feel with exquisite detail and carefully considered construction. The custom walnut cabinetry plays beautifully with the Lacanche range in Armor, and the simple backsplash allows the calacatta marble countertop to take top billing The end result is one of the most unique, gorgeous and functional kitchens we've ever designed.
- [Leschi Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/leschi-kitchen-pj-vj~5788470)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: Our Leschi kitchen was designed to be the focal point of a marvelous top floor open concept living space; that is, until you turn around and take in sweeping views of Lake Washington. My client's love for Lake Chelan informed the deep blue @heathceramics tile backsplash, while walnut cabinetry anchors the design and raw edged wood shelving adds texture.
- [Project Tiny but Luxe](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/project-tiny-but-luxe-pj-vj~3075647)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 22
  - Description: When we call this kitchen, dining area and bathroom "Tiny but Luxe," we mean it literally: this kitchen is a walk-through galley that's hardly more than 125 square feet, and the bathroom is quite small as well. So in order to make this tiny home feel more spacious, we opened the wall to the living room to allow light to flow through the living spaces to the dining nook, and over the new peninsula we designed a custom wine rack to create a differentiation of spaces. With a carefully heightened ar…

- [Montlake Tudor Kitchen--Before & After](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/montlake-tudor-kitchen-before-and-after-pj-vj~1707325)
  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 24
  - Description: In the Anderson kitchen, our goal was to create a space that blended in with the rest of the historic home. We chose walnut cabinets (for character) and white cabinets (to brighten the north-facing space) and a black Bertazzoni range to accent the iron windows. We created smart storage for countertop clutter; there's a hidden pantry next to the fridge where the microwave is tucked away, and there is a pull-out garbage area next to the sink, convenient to the back door exit. A new lighting scheme…
- [VenHuizen Kitchen Before](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/venhuizen-kitchen-before-pj-vj~2078360)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 22
  - Description: The VenHuizen kitchen is a Midcentury gut remodel that promises to be one of our biggest and most satisfying transformations yet. The kitchen did not have countertop space (the cabinets were just 14" off the countertops!), and it was dated. The lighting was dim and the cabinets were hard to access because of their locations and the appliances in the kitchen. But most of all, the homeowners' personal style didn't fit the space. Their tastes lean more Nordic-minimalist, so we worked to give the ki…
- [Nordlund Kitchen--Before & After](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/nordlund-kitchen-before-and-after-pj-vj~2072837)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 25
  - Description: The Nordlund kitchen was outdated and dark, with old appliances, stark lighting and outdated cabinets. It lacked the cool Midcentury style the homeowners craved and was ready for a gut remodel. The owners planned to do much of the construction themselves and had made several major decisions prior to bringing us on, so we dove in head first. Distinctive Kitchens was brought in to help choose finishes--tile backsplash and floors, sink, faucet, lighting, countertops and cabinet hardware. The goal w…
- [Chic Blue + Black on Capitol Hill](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/chic-blue-black-on-capitol-hill-pj-vj~1604175)
  - Location: Seattle, WA

- [Severt Kitchen BEFORE](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/severt-kitchen-before-pj-vj~3355265)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The Severt's refer to their cottage as a "tree house," so with that in mind, we came up with an earthy, modern palate to brighten the space and suit their style. We chose to bring in raw wood for open floating shelves and we created a new open arched area to connect the kitchen to the adjacent living areas. The "before" images show how dark and outdated the kitchen was before the remodel. Our plan will bring modernity and light to the space.
- [Galer Street Kitchen--Before and After](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/galer-street-kitchen-before-and-after-pj-vj~2454964)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 28
  - Description: At the Galer Street Kitchen, our goal was to freshen up the tired looking cabinets and drab paint, open up the kitchen and dining nook space, create clever storage solutions, and create flow between the kitchen to an adjacent family room. We also wanted to infuse the space with light and make the space a little more contemporary, while keeping the kitchen's design classic and timeless. We chose a gray and white palette with brass hardware and gray accented lighting. And we created a small penins…
- [Mt. Baker Bathroom Before & After](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mt-baker-bathroom-before-and-after-pj-vj~2877733)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 21
  - Description: A family of four shared a very cramped bathroom. There was the clawfoot shower that took up a third of the room (and which no one used), and there was a small sink for four people to share. We knew we could improve the space by making smart choices about where to put everything, and by borrowing room from a nearby closet. First, we were able to remove the shower-tub that took up so much space and instead we created a new walk-in glass shower in the back of an overly spacious hall closet that adj…
- [Foster Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/foster-kitchen-pj-vj~2622384)
  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: The Foster kitchen is located in a historically significant home in Laurelhurst. The kitchen is the heart of this home, and its outdated design and appliances are overdue for a refresh. Our plan is to do all new backsplash, counters, appliances, sinks, faucets, upholstery, table, chairs and light fixtures to freshen up the space and make it feel brighter, more current and just a touch modern.
- [Beaton Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/beaton-kitchen-pj-vj~2622307)
  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The Beaton house is a darling cottage that is ready for a bright, light gut remodel of the kitchen. We'll be opening it up to the adjoining dining area, creating a great room feel to the whole upper floor for the growing family who makes their home there. We're going with a fresh palette and upbeat fabrics and we have durability and happy tones in mind. We cannot wait to make this the kitchen of their dreams.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Would you please share where this gorgeous bench seating is from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Thank you!

A: Hi Connie,
We had this custom built for us by the contractor. I'm glad you like it!

**Q: love the space!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you share the source of the light fixture? Thanks!

A: It is from CB2

**Q: Can you confirm the color of the range?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I researched the colors on their site and this seems closer to Delft Blue than Armor? Perhaps it just looks different in an installation? Thanks!

A: It is Armor. Definitely request sample colors before choosing to see them in your own light.

**Q: Hi can you confirm the color of the range?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I researched the colors on their site and this seems closer to Delft Blue than Armor? Perhaps it just looks different in an installation? Thanks!

A: Hi Claire,
It does appear more blue than the online Armor color, which may be an effect of the lighting of this photo or the lighting in this specific home or a combination of both! But it is Armor. I recommend getting a sample of each color you're considering sent to you so that you can decide alongside the rest of the elements you're using in your design. And of course let me know if you'd like a consultation--I'm happy to discuss Lacanche any time!

**Q: what is the size of the square backsplash tile used here?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this kitchen and the unusual, stylish finishes! Curious the size of this tile. Thank you!

A: Hi! These are simple 4x4 tiles. They're very easy to find and quite affordable (we splurged on so many parts of this design, but these are from Lowe's).

**Q: Cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)*

If I wanted the wood grain cabinets, how would I describe them? What is the wood and finish?

A: You can get these cabinets at Home Depot by asking for the Martha Stewart line and showing the salesperson this image. Best of luck!
