The studio’s Principal Designer is Kit Chow. After over a decade of experience working at the Exploratorium and with clients like Google, Sephora, and Hyundai in museum exhibitions and events, she rediscovered her love for crafting deeply personal spaces that affect the daily lives of those who inhabit them. Kit’s interdisciplinary background has honed her ability to design unique experiences that tell stories and invite people to explore and engage with their surroundings.

She is an alumna of Harvard’s Graduate School of Design where she received her Master in Design Studies. Working with an extreme attention to detail and a knack for resourcefulness, Kit often characterizes her work as simple and clean, yet playful in nature. In addition to her work with Kit Studio, she enjoys juggling life as a mother of two young kids, who remind her every day there is beauty in imperfection.

> When Kit first walked into our future coworking space, it was a hollow shell filled with the previous tenant's old belongings. It was hard to picture anything beautiful there. Kit saw it immediately.

> Kit started by doing real design thinking with us: What was our mission and who were we serving? How would people actually use this space? What feeling did we want them to have when they walked through the door? That foundation made everything else coherent. From there she proposed a full floor plan and distinct use areas, then stayed with us through decisions like color palette, furnishings, layout, and more. She translated our values and budget into something real.

> The result floored us. We opened Our Space Berkeley, a community-first coworking space for women and nonbinary folks, in March 2026. > From our very first conversation, Kit took the time to understand not just our aesthetic preferences for our ADU, but who we are as a family and what we were trying to create. As busy parents with full plates, we came in with virtually no vision and very little to offer in terms of direction or inspiration. Rather than waiting for us to come to her with ideas, she took the lead, asked the right questions, and gradually drew out a design direction we didn’t even know we had. If you’re someone who wants a designer who can create something beautiful from a blank slate, she’s exactly that.

> A great example of this was how she approached our budget. The ADU is intended primarily as a guest house, so we were upfront that we wanted the space to feel beautiful and intentional without over-investing in a space that won’t see daily use. We also were willing to go a little bold with colors and design. Rather than pushing back or steering us toward higher-end options, Kit embraced that constraint completely. She researched IKEA cabinet boxes paired with custom Plykea fronts, which is something we would have never discovered on our own. The two-tone palette she landed on is bold yet cohesive. Guests ask about the kitchen every time they visit. Her eye for sourcing unique pieces extended to the bathroom too. She found a rounded asymmetric mirror paired with green globe sconces that give the space a warm, distinctive personality without feeling overdone.

> Kit also brought real structure to what could have been an overwhelming process. She used design software tools to keep all her content, notes, and decisions organized and easy to reference, which was a lifesaver for us. As busy as we were, she always knew what decisions needed to be made and when, and she guided us through each one without it ever feeling like homework. Her mood boards and presentations made it easy to react and respond even when we didn’t have the vocabulary to articulate what we wanted. Perhaps most impressively, she worked directly with our contractor (who was, let’s say, a challenge) and helped ensure everything was installed correctly. That hands-on follow-through made a real difference in the final result.

> We hired Kit to help us transform my childhood 1960s ranch home into a modern, multi-generational space, and the results are beyond what we imagined. She handled the design for four bathrooms, kitchen, and our main living area, all interior paint colors and trim design, as well as consultation for many other decisions as we reconstructed a whole house. Kit's design skills and simplified options made it easy for us to plan and led to a unique feeling to our home.

> What sets her apart is her eye for detail. She selected beautiful tiles, fixtures, and vanities and went deep into the technical details to customize our window and door trims. For our living room feature wall, she designed custom built-ins benches, built-in bookshelves with special detail to overhangs, inside curves (creating a soft feel), and linear texture that elevated the look. For the kid's bathroom, she delivered a playful and curated design that the whole family loves.
