This kitchen does look nice it's different and breaks away from the white look everyone has in their kitchens. We also do kitchen cabinet painting in Mississauga and we can give a wonderfully beautiful job just like this to some local residents.

Richlite is holding up just great. The question indicates that you don't fully understand the nature of the material, and that it is capable of simple and effective rejuvenation under hard wear and tear. I recommend you acquire a sample and learn about it before employing it in your designs.

Again, we suggest you become more intimately familiar with the product in order to determine if it is right for your client.

Ebony,

Please see my company's profile for the thread of comments and answers to common questions. Or of course you may ask me as well.

This image is the most viewed painted kitchen image on Houzz.com, and has well over 19,000 entries into Ideabooks. It's amazing. Here is the answer to your question, as answered in a previous thread on our professional page.

The paint color is from the Ben. Moore deck, Verdigris, but we have it mixed in our cabinet finishes. For this kitchen we used Milk Paint from General Finishes. It's not actually a Milk Paint, it is 100% acrylic, but it looks very similar.

Thank you for your kind words!

cdfetters,

We only use waterborne finishes, except in the case of wipe on oil/wax for some bare wood.

The painted finishes here are as mentioned above, and the wood is finished with clear waterborne finishes.

Thank you!

@diyher Very good for you. That is great. You'll please excuse my generalization about latex paints. Some are fine for cabinets, meaning they don't stick once dry. Obviously you selected an appropriately formulated one for your cabinets. SW Pro Classic is specifically formulated for interior millwork as it is stated on their website. Maybe I should have said "some" latex paints stick. I do not know which do and which don't, to be honest, but when I find cabinets with painted finishes that stick, it is always some sort of interior wall paint that is latex based. Maybe the formulas with higher quality acrylic are better? Not sure. I think it is a question best asked your local paint store that deals in professional grade products.

I never realized there was a difference either until I started researching on another website and those t hat do it for a living told me what to purchase :) I also let my doors dry close to 2 weeks before I put them back onto the cabinets. They say it takes close to 30 days to cure completely.

I presume you mean thermafoil? No, they cannot. Thermafoil is specifically designed to repel anything and everything. Paint will not properly adhere to it's surface, and to my knowledge there are no surface preps that will change this.

I have had the same cabinets since I moved in to my home and I think it is about time for an upgrade. I have seen a lot of examples of people going for a stained look with painted accents, but I haven't seen anything like the ones you have here. I really like how they used the stained pieces as the accents. http://unitycabinetgranite.com/cabinets/

Apologies for the delayed reply. I can't say I have a good DIY answer for this. I don't know anything about the consumer grade spray options out there at the home improvement stores.
We use professional equipment. If you have an air compressor that puts out enough cfm, you could buy an hvlp gun for cheap and try and spray your own finishes, but I don't recommend it. It does take a little know-how and experience. There are different setups for different materials, and the tuning of the gun can be tricky for a newcomer.
My best answer is to hire a professional that can do it right the first time so that you don't end up having to strip and refinish.
Some things are best left to the pros in my opinion, and fine finishing is one of them.

Thank you for the interest. The wood is vertical grain Douglas Fir and its finished with a waterborne hybrid alkyd varnish by Target Coatings. It wasn't stained, but clear coated.
The finish contains oil, so it will yellow slightly like any other oil based varnish. It has that warmth in tone associated with oil based finishes.

Should you paint your cabinetry? Before making any decisions, figure out what the existing finish is on your cabinet. If you’re not sure, consider taking a door or drawer to your local paint supplier — he or she can help you with what you need to get your cabinet ready for painting. Depending on the level of work, you may want to look into hiring a professional. “Think carefully before painting your cabinetry,” says Davidson. “It can be a DIY, but it requires a lot of attention and care.”“Always consider the cost of possibly refacing your cabinets or replacing them altogether, and how that coordinates with your short- and long-term objectives,” says Wade Thompson of ThomsonHoliday Painting.

Painted CabinetsWhen you choose painted cabinets, they will usually be assembled with materials that accept and hold paint well, such as poplar, veneered plywood or MDF. The key is having a nice, flat surface, free of knots and heavy grain patterns.

5. Paint your cabinets a new color. Maybe refacing isn’t what you need but a jazzy new paint color is. This is another more budget-friendly option than replacing, but the glossy finish on the woodwork may prove challenging for some DIYers. See how to paint kitchen cabinets
