Klimpt Inspired kitchen

Contemporary artist Gustav Klimpt’s “The Kiss” was the inspiration for this 1950’s ranch remodel. The existing living room, dining, kitchen and family room were independent rooms completely separate from each other. Our goal was to create an open grand-room design to accommodate the needs of a couple who love to entertain on a large scale and whose parties revolve around theater and the latest in gourmet cuisine. The kitchen was moved to the end wall so that it became the “stage” for all of the client’s entertaining and daily life’s “productions”. The custom tile mosaic, both at the fireplace and kitchen, inspired by Klimpt, took first place as the focal point. Because of this, we chose the Best by Broan K4236SS for its minimal design, power to vent the 30” Wolf Cooktop and that it offered a seamless flue for the 10’6” high ceiling. The client enjoys the convenient controls and halogen lighting system that the hood offers and cleaning the professional baffle filter system is a breeze since they fit right in the Bosch dishwasher. Finishes & Products:  Beech Slab-Style cabinets with Espresso stained alder accents.  Custom slate and tile mosaic backsplash  Kitchenaid Refrigerator  Dacor wall oven and convection/microwave  Wolf 30” cooktop top  Bamboo Flooring  Custom radius copper eating bar

This kitchen was designed in 2005 - LED's were not readily available. The fixtures are from LBL Lighting www.lbllighting.com and are MR16 lamps. We chose narrow floods to illuminate the countertops for maximum of 100 fc (footcandles) which is appropriate for task lighting (a good lighting designer can help you with the calculations). The vaulted ceilings drove us to using track lighting for both aesthetic and function. I hope this helps you. If you need more support, please contact me at robin@robinrigbyfisher.com I wish you much success in your project.

Thank you Robin and Media Decor for the info and suggestion. This is fun and time consuming at the same time.
One of the challenges and rewards of building/decorating is learning what's out there, determining what you like/love. I'm becoming an adict! Houzz has become a great reference/source. Wen I've exposed myself to "the choices" and find something I like.....I'm sold and I will enjoy what I select, no regrets

What is this backsplash, and application at the cooktop?

This backsplash is my redition of Kimpt's textiles. The main tiles are Black Absolute Granite and Slate (can't remember the colour), the ceramic tiles are from the Outlet Store of Pratt and Larson, there is glass and bronze tiles scattered throughout. This backsplash requires the work of an EXPERT tile setter. It is a completely custom installation.

LOVE LOVE the back splash. And then when I saw your comment that it's a reflection of Klimpt's textiles, I had to smile because I love Klimpt & have a few things in my house reflecting that style. Beautiful!

The raised bar is just under 9 feet. To maintain copper depends on how much you want to work and if you want it to look like a shiny penny or an old penny. If you want it to always be shiny - you have to use copper cleaner on it with a lot of elbow grease on a monthly basis. Most of my clients are willing to live with a natural patina and clean it once or twice a year. Really depends on you and your overall desire for the aesthetic. Purchasing a copper countertop is done through your local metal fabricator. I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your prompt response.
So the length is about. 9 feet right. I am assuming the height is about the standard 42 inches. How about the width - 20 inches approx?
It is really unique and the more I see it the more I like it.
I am currently getting my basement finished and the original plan was for onyx . But this has really caught my eye. Would it be very prone to scratches though? What about water resistance?

This backsplash was designed by myself and my tile setter. I am glad you like it. We mostly used black granite and a slate (dont' remember the stone) and tile from Pratt and Larson's outlet store.
