Several parties were responsible for the medicine cabinet's design and fabrication -- architect, lighting designer, wood worker, glazier, electrician, general contractor -- too many to list, really.

Bathroom Design - Does your company take jobs designing bathroom remodels? I really love the bathroom design. If not, do you have someone in Chicago you recommend?

Hi and thanks for the nice words. Our practice is geared toward custom single family residences and institutional restoration work, but we do occasionally take on bathroom remodels if the scope of the project is large enough and our workload can accommodate it. If you like, you can email me with more info about your project and we can discuss further.

The wall tile is 1/2" x 3" rectangles of Bardiglio stone - the same material used on the floor. I do not have source or purchase information.

The entire assembly is custom. There is a painted wood cabinet carcass recessed 5 inches into the wall. The glass portions mount to the wood carcass and sit about one inch proud of the tile. there are two medicine cabinets (located to the outside of the lights). The center panel of glass (sandblasted at lights and mirrored in the middle) is removable so that the LED lights and their drivers can be accessed. Hope this helps.

Humidity issue in shower skylight - My new shower skylight collects humidity and water runs down the walls of the shy light tower and collects and stains the shower ceiling. How can I correct this?

There is no skylight in these bathrooms, thus no issues with condensation. One thing you might consider for your condensation is to install another layer of clear material - acrylic or plexi or something - at the bottom of your skylight opening, several inches below the actual skylight and frame. This will prevent the warm, moist interior air from hitting the cold skylight frame and condensing.

the baseboard trim is painted poplar, 3/4" thick x 4" tall. The face of the wood is flush with the face of the drywall and deparated from it by 5/8"x5/8" reveal.

The tiles measure 1/2" x 3" each and are made of a stone called Bardiglio with a honed finish. I believe they cam from a store called The Fine Line in Chicago. I'm not sure who the exact manufacturer was; possibly Ann Sacks.

The mirrors, medicine cabinet and lighting are all custom. The light source is behind sandblasted glass, and is LED. The LED products came from Starfire lighting.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

John Hill added this to Houzz Tour: A Three-Story Barn Becomes a Modern-Home Beauty
The bathroom incorporates the various materials and finishes found in the house: stone, wood and white. Within the old brick buildings, Vinci | Hamp Architects has crafted something resolutely modern.
Spry Architecture added this to Saving Facades: Modern Gems Merge Old and New
I love this home's wonderfully detailed bath vanity. It's simple and beautiful. A mirror uncluttered by extraneous lights mounts to the wall, with the lights woven into the mirror design. The detailing of this bath vanity complements the exterior aesthetic as a welcomed modern update.See more of this home's design
Studio Burke added this to The Size Has It: Play With Proportions to Bring Energy to Rooms
Mix up material sizes. Contrast small objects with large ones to create visual interest. This room has different shapes and sizes, from the large-format square floor tiles to the mosaic rectangular wall tiles. The wall-to-wall rectangular vanity ties them all together in a timeless, modern design.
