How high are the seat backs? Also, how high are the seats from the floor?

Hi clbrown95,

The seats are approximately 15" above the floor and the seat backs rise to countertop height, 36" above the floor.

This might seem strange to ask but are there any pictures of this in use with 4 people sitting in the booth? I'm working with basically the same set of dimensions, except my depth is closer to 42'', so it would be even tighter and i'm wondering if it would be feasible for 4 adults (comfortably) to eat a meal. Thanks!

Sorry - no pictures of the booth occupied. We try to maintain a minimum of 2' per person in terms of width for our built-in seating, more is a little better. 42" will be a squeeze. If you'd like to discuss this further - give us a call. Maybe there's another way to look at your situation-

Cheers -

What is the brand and size of the refrigerator?

Hi jonrands,

Trudy Yavorek Kobylski asked the same question some time back. The refrigerator is a GE Monogram - its a 36" wide unit with 21 cubic feet of storage.

We are thrilled with the proportion of the room, the high ceiling and clerestory, the finish composition of the cabinets with the tops, appliances and flooring in this kitchen.

If you have other questions about the project, please call and we will connect you with the project architect responsible.

Hi BFMarch,
I love the work you've done in this kitchen, it has a timeless feel to it.
I tried looking for Prizma cabinets online but nothing came up, do you have any more info on the cabinet company?

Hi housecats,

Prizma cabinetry is a frameless, european style line of cabinetry availble from Mouser Custom Cabinetry. Here are links to the Mouser website and the Prizma portion of their site.

Hi sebmedia,

The floor is oak - we typically use minwax stain. I believe this floor is one of the goldens - oak or pecan.

If you would like to know more, feel free to call us and we will put you in touch with the partner responsible for this proect.

Hi b0ni,

Good question - the bar pulls are 9 or 10 inches long, we do not know who the manufacturer is, but the design can be easily found from the offerings from Amerock or many other hardware makers. The oversized bar pull is popular in contemporary kitchens, we like how it works here too.

If you have other questions, please call us directly and we will connect you with the architect responsible for this project.

countertop not extending up the wall - I would prefer to just have the flat granite countertop without a small backsplash with tile above that. But I have one wall in my kitchen that is just base cabinets with painted wall above it. My contractor says I have to have a small backsplash on this wall rather than just flat countertop and paint. It's not a wall I use for food preparation. Will it look wrong not to have any backsplash on this wall?

Hi hub422,

Its a design preference. Functionally a small backsplash is better than none, it gives you a durable surface which can be cleaned, rubbed and wiped given the inevitable spills and splashes that happen in kitchens. I've done kitchens where we make a sponge stop 1" high above the tops. We have passed on the backsplash in several kitchens - it ups the requirements for maintenance on the wall.

2. Japanese steakhouse or Asian fusion. There is an orderliness and geometry to this built-in banquette, with its dark, comfortable cushions. It has me thinking "hibachi."Banquettes can be great solutions for small spaces. Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects, which designed this house, notes that you should allow a comfortable 2-foot width per person, but the more inches you can add, the better.
