Hillside Home - Bathroom

Marc Fowler - Kitchen & Bathroom shots

Clerestory windows across the top of the vanity, combined with the long vertical window, create strong architectural lines while allowing for form and function to flow together. The vanity, made of natural anigre, float above the limestone tile floor. Natural, and neutral finishes throughout create a calming backdrop to the nature of the outdoors. Small natural stone, mosaic, listello tile flow up the shower walls and onto the ceiling. The sculptural, teak bench moves between the shower/steam shower and the make up area.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the files for this project but judging from the photos the door may be 24" wide and the side panels 20" each. I'm not sure if this helps you Pilot Mom. All the best.

Kivi is absolutely right, this is a steam shower and tiling the ceiling is essential in that case.
As per the shower walls, we used Pierre Naturelle In line - cream broken edge, by Ceratec. They have a showroom here in Ottawa.

The hardware us from Richelieu. But many companies carry variations of this hardware design. The cabinet is custom. A combination of anigree and cherry wood veneers.

Hello toddh, unfortunately these cabinets are custom made so you won't be able to find them in store. We have seen wall hung cabinets at some of the Lowes, Rona or Home Depot stores but their finishes were different. Ikea has some wall hung inexpensive cabinets that are with an Oak Veneer but I'm not sure that you want to go that route. Speak to some of the cabinetry makers in your area. They may have something similar in their portfolios.

Best of luck.

I don't recall why we didn't go with a built in bench in this case... perhaps the layout didn't allow for it... If you have room for a built in bench in your shower and feel it is something you would use while showering, then there is no cons to having a built in bench. Go for it.

Vanity drawers - What are the width of the drawers on the vanity and the width of the pulls? I'm in the middle of ordering mine and I have 6 drawers at 28" wide and one in the middle the slide out drawer is 14". In the other vanity 3 of my drawers are 17" and the other side is a slide out that is also 17" wide. I'm very interested in the type of pulls you have also.

Your correct, they are very similar to the kitchen pull-out cabinets with spike racks. These cabinets pull out from the sides for the owner to store their make-up, brushed and ect as the center of this vanity is a make-up area.

The vanity counter-top is called Avignon Light Limestone. To install a wall-hung vanity you must first place additional backing and support in the wall in which it will be fastened to otherwise, you are correct, it will pose a concern! If you don't want to rip of your exiting wall to put additional backing, another solution is to build a knee-wall (typically 4-1/2" deep) under the vanity to support it. That way the vanity still looks as though it is floating/suspended but is actually supported by the knee-wall - make sense??

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Becky Harris added this to The Cure for Houzz Envy: Bathroom Touches Anyone Can Do
Add a shower bench without remodeling. Portable stools made to stand up to the elements outdoors can also stand up to the shower (think teak). These are great if you need a seat or an extra spot for your shampoo or to prop a leg on when you’re shaving.
