Hello: The stair treads are a Flor carpet tile custom cut for the depth of the stairs. They were a great way to add a "natural" element in this urban boys' escape. Thanks for the question!

Hello - The paint color along the wall of the bed is Benjamin Moore Whitestone. The natural lighting in the room is somewhat tricky though. I always advise doing a large sample patch in your space to view under various lighting conditions and/or working with a paint or design professional. Thanks for your question!

The legs are pretty flimsy-looking. Firm cross-bracing is avoided to "open" it more, but that is handled with a wide bridging piece. Kids jump around and do weird stuff on beds so as a designer, I'd definitely beef up whatever version I built. You could build this if you PLAN first. Planning is vital. You must build sturdy connections to avoid damage from uhh "childly vibrations"

    Hello again:

It mostly depends on your "user" - his/her height and how they will use the space. 9' is totally fine. For comfort, I would recommend a slightly lower bed and also a lower sofa (something like a fold-out foam sofa or a floor cushion/sofa system that could be rearranged for overnight guests). Good luck. As always, I encourage you to contact me or a designer in your area if you're interested in professional support on your projects.

Thank you for your generous help, Tamara! I like your thoughts about lowering the structure and maybe even cutting down all of the dimensions, except for the mattress area. This is a tiny guest house that is only 10 x 12 feet, but we have managed to figure out the bathroom, and kitchen with no problem. I do not want a second floor loft and your design, proportionally reduced, should work well. Again, many thanks.

Love this, can you tell me where you got the material to make the canopy.

Hi Danielle - the canopy is an actual camping shelter. You may find them at any outdoor or camping supplier. It's tied down with various ropes purchased in the climbing department of an outdoor supplier. Thanks for your question.

Hello: The bed started as a ultra loft bed from Maxtrix, which I then had modified and customized according to my design. Customization included the carpeted step shelves. Thanks for the question!
