The floors are pre-finished, hand-scraped walnut and are 6" wide. They are fairly expensive but have held up very well over the past 5 years.

I had is custom made by a local guy here in Atlanta. It is a 3'0" wide x 8'0" tall x 2 1/4" thick arched top 3/4 French Mahogany door. You should be able to get someone to product it where you are.

In this particular door, the drywall is not recessed. It is in the same plane as the door jam and the door is cased out in the usual way.

I want to do this look...kinda. I really don't like white trim. I really like one color, including ceiling. However, I am tossing around one color everywhere except the doors and their associated casing. My point? What colors did you use?

Ceiling Height - If you paint a stripe of contrasting color around your walls can that make the ceiling height look shorter. I already only have 8' ceilings.

It seems your main goal is to make the ceiling appear higher. So using a contrasting color as your stripe would actually do the opposite. It would "belt" the room and that's where your eye would go to. Whenever you change colors mid wall, I recommend using trim as a transition. In order to make the ceiling seem taller, you need to take the color above the trim and wrap it to the ceiling.

Yes, I agree with Chroma Design's comment above. In the room shown here, the ceilings are 10' and the front door is 8'.

No, the ceilings are "ceiling white" and the walls are French Canvas. Flat sheen.

The leather chairs are actually part of a set of 8 dining room chairs. They are 100+ years old. I am actually looking to sell the set as we have moved into a new house and the style doesn't really work. Email me at gdresser@comcast.net if you have any interest.

I had it custom made by a local guy here in Atlanta. You can probably find someone in your area to produce it. It is 3'0" wide by 8'0" tall and 2 1/4" thick. The material is Mahogany.

It was a unique rug, so you probably won't be able to find an exact match, but it came from a store here in Atlanta called Verde Home. http://www.verdehomeinc.com/ If you contact them and talk to Laura Walker, I suspect she can find you something comparable.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Laura Gaskill added this to 15 Ways to Give Your Home Personal Polish
4. Add definition with a painted border. As an alternative to moldings, painting a stripe of contrasting color around your walls can add crisp definition for very little cost. Thinner lines (1 to 3 inches) will give a subtly crisp look, while thicker lines (5 to 8 inches) are a decorative element in their own right.
Samantha Schoech added this to 7 Ways to Paint Your Trim Fantastic, From Classic to Fearless
2. Darker Than the WallsIn my remodel I decided at the last minute to paint the trim a little darker than the walls. Now — honest to God — I spend time just sitting on my sofa admiring the way it looks. It’s crisp and modern but somehow mellower than the other way around. And it works in any style room with any style trim.
Becky Dietrich, Interior Designer added this to Accent a Room With Colorful Trim
Moldings do not have to be painted a vivid color to make a statement. The hues of this two-tone window trim are mimicked in the bold stripe that dresses the wall at the ceiling, and in the painted beam, resulting in rich, layered, classic warmth.
Laura Gaskill added this to 8 Ways to Decorate a Center Table
Creating an asymmetrical arrangement is also a great way to make a centered table feel less formal. Try placing a large vase off center and surround it with short stacks of books, as shown here.Work with a pro to decorate your home
Toronto Interior Design Group | Yanic Simard added this to What Color Should You Paint Your Trim?
NeutralWhen trim is dressed in a midtone neutral shade, it immediately gives it a certain sophisticated, stately appeal. The trim becomes a feature, for sure, but in an understated way.
