Inspiration for a mid-sized timeless slate floor and beige floor mudroom remodel in Detroit with beige walls

Birmingham, MI Mud/Laundry Room Addition

The unique design challenge in this early 20th century Georgian Colonial was the complete disconnect of the kitchen to the rest of the home. In order to enter the kitchen, you were required to walk through a formal space. The homeowners wanted to connect the kitchen and garage through an informal area, which resulted in building an addition off the rear of the garage. This new space integrated a laundry room, mudroom and informal entry into the re-designed kitchen. Additionally, 25” was taken out of the oversized formal dining room and added to the kitchen. This gave the extra room necessary to make significant changes to the layout and traffic pattern in the kitchen. Beth Singer Photography

    I'm sorry! I wasn't trying to offend you. I was just flabbergasted at the cost. My husband is a carpenter with his own business and makes lots of built in cabinets, closets, entertainment units etc. . He has made a lot in our own home, so I know what the actual costs are. I think he needs to increase his prices! :)

    I just went a totally different direction. I ended up with a 12 x 24 gray porcelain tile. It has some texture to it and every tile's not the same...paired it with white marble accents....

    @wilpots -
    Thank you for your inquiry! If properly installed and sealed, this stone is a great product for any flooring application. This stone is extremely random and we got this variation directly out of the box. According to my supplier, that variation is standard with this stone.
    I recommend going directly to the Olympia website: http://www.olympiatile.com/
    and clicking on the "locations" tab. I know there is a distributor in Kent, Washington, but do not know how close that is to you. Regardless, when you find the closest distributor, contact them for your nearest retailer.

    I hope this helps - best of luck to you!

    Thank you for your inquiry!

    The cabinetry is custom made locally, in Michigan. However, we did have our cabinet manufacturer, Omega, custom size 2 doors for the pantry cabinet to match the cabinets in the adjacent laundry room. The whole unit and the doors were painted together off site to have a furniture quality finish.

    Please let me know if you have any additional questions, I'd be happy to help.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, there is a window directly across from the built in and a french door right where the picture was taken from. If you look at the attached exterior picture you will see the windows on the addition.
    This homeowner chose not to do window coverings in this area as it faces a private area of the back yard. Please let me know if you have further questions.

    Hi there,
    Thank you for your inquiry! 15" is pretty small for a closet to hang items from a rod. The pantry you see above is about 18" wide overall, but not used as a closet. I would suggest your look at another closet in your home and hang what you would like to store (ie. coats, etc.), then measure what you have hung to see exactly what dimensions will work for your situation.
    Good luck! Please let me know if you have further questions.

    In your climate, the Quartzite shown here would work for your porch. Blue stone actually comes from a few different places in the US. We use it quite a bit in Michigan for patios and porches as it is a thicker cut and can be mortared in like brick.
