The pergolas over the windows are so pretty.

    - Where do you get the corbels and beams? Are they in vinyl?

They are made out of western red cedar or redwood, custom cut to fit.

Having grown up in the north east I LOVE the look of climbers next to the house. But I'm wondering if they are potentially dangerous next to homes made of wood as they are here in CA? Are they an invitation to climbing creatures or other insects etc.?

Go to your local building supply store and ask for their best "design/carpenter"...or ask if they offer design services. Most have someone, they are very inexpensive and usually very good. Work them to make sure the plans the draw up for you are what you want....and make sure you understand them completely. They will also provide you with a list of supplies needed for your project and the cost of the materials. Then you can get competitive quotes from their top carpenters. Hope that helps you...I've had to do this myself to get what I want...Also make sure you keep an eye on your project to make sure it is going to end up as you have dreamed it to be. Will save you a lot of money and heart ache...

The climbing plant is a climbing rose. Climbing hydrangea (Hydrangea petiolaris) has a flatter, lace cap blossom cluster.
          • Nancy (San Jose CA 9b)

More specifically, I think it's 'Sally Holmes' rose

That is Laurentia, great stuff, needs a little shade but does ok in sun too. Not always blooming but when it does it's amazing, little blue flowers.
