Beautiful deck! - I can't believe it's not ipe! Does it look real in person or plastic like? Why did you choose composite as opposed to real wood? Again, beautiful work!

Hi Tracy!
Really your contractor should know how to do it. We looked on the fiberon website to see who sold it. We called them and asked if they could recommend a contractor who was familiar with thus product to install it for us. They painted the concrete black, screwed some planks of fiberon vertically into the concrete and then nailed the fiberon horizontally to those vertical planks. I'm not sure if any glue was involved. They put gaps in between the planks to allow for expansion. Here is a pic...hope this helps! Good luck!

Great question! It's a hidden fastener system by the decking company.

Was this planned piece by piece or did you already have the complete vision in mind when you started? I love how inviting, safe, and smooth everything looks. I'm sure the hardest part is taking care of the edging without damaging the side panels. http://www.acton-snyder.com

Thank you. The entire deck and pieces were planned up front and executed (built) over a two week period.

This most likely is an ethanol fire feature. Basically like a giant sterno pot like you'd use under a buffet chaffing dish to keep food warm. This is the up and coming design for flexible fire decoration in and around your home as they are clean burning with no soot, ash, smoke, odor, or flue/venting needed to enjoy. I have found some really great looking ones on woodlanddirect.com....check it out!

The fireplace is an ecosmart fireplace. Other designs can be found on www.ecosmartfire.com and can be purchased through Karen Garlanger Designs as well as the white polypropylene stools. The cushions are custom. Concrete counter was custom. The lighting is LED exterior lighting. Hope that helps!

This one doesn't throw a ton of heat (outdoors) their indoor units heat quite nicely. The Cyl style changed some, here is the link: http://www.ecosmartfire.com/bioethanol-fireplace-products/outdoor-fireplaces/available-models/cyl and is $1490.00 and can ship anywhere in continental US for $69.

Planters - Hi Karen, thanks so much for previously answering everyone's questions. LOVE this deck. I'm doing something similar with our deck, I'm wondering about the planters? Do they sit on the ground or are they sitting on top of the deck base? How does it drain? You mentioned drainage on another question. What did you use to line the wood to prevent rot? How deep is the soil in the planter?

That's great information! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that! Thank you. Further to my question, is the drainage space a cavity so to speak? It's hollow? See the sketch I attached. :)

The drain is in the base then below is hollow to the ground (there is a actual pipe from the drain out of the planter)....does that help? AH! I forgot to mention the pea gravel over the drain then the soil on top. Forgive me it's been three years :-)

Thank you. I am using the same material for my deck but wasnt sure what I wanted to do in regards to the benches and planters until I saw your design. Absolutely beautiful! Can I ask what are the dimensions of the bench (height and width) and where you got the cushions. Are they are standard size? Thank you for your time.

Yes they are white stools. Polypropylene, hollow and filled with sand so they don't blow away. They are from Aceray.

The lights in the stairs are a LED round exterior light that you can find at a lighting store. Under the bench is rope lighting that creates that glow.
