Sue, The tops of the newel posts have a slight taper in the top that is beveled to meet at a point in the middle. This is a very minimal taper. Thank you for your question and good luck with your project.

Hello Anne and thank you for your question! Remarkably, every piece of this grand stair is original (circa the late 1800's) and was beautifully restored by a local specialist. So unfortunately, we cannot specify a product for the cap and newel. However a good millworker might be able to achieve what you are looking for, or at least point you in a direction. Hello, and thank you for your question! We used Vanilla Milkshake from Benjamin Moore in the Grand Stair. Always be sure to obtain a few color samples when painting since different lighting conditions and types of lighting can alter how you perceive the paint color. Best of luck!
