While I haven't experienced RAIS woodstoves in person, several architects have raved to me about their function and design. They do have a great modern look.

The house was originally a barn built about 150 years ago. The exposed wood is cedar which was widely available in the area at the time of construction. It's just the natural wood that has been sandblasted -no paint or stain. The decking consists of the original 3" thick planks so nails from the finished wood flooring above don't come through.

The pattern is Kivet although Merimekko's colors change over time so this color may not still be available.

I hope you got the kinds worked out on the roller. I'm going to attempt something similar in our new construction. Just wanted to tell you that I never realized that several of my favorite individual views on Houzz over the months have been all from this one project. I just wanted to compliment your work. This is truly an extraordinary space. I simply LOVE it. You are very talented.

Any idea where to purchase the Belfer wedges? No one appears to carry them.

We know where to get them in Boston. Check the Belfer website, there is a feature there to locate sales representatives by geographic region.

Do you have any details on the wall sconces that were used?

Belfer No. 6215 Halogen Wedge. Variety of finishes, these are Raw Aluminum, with square backplates They make A LOT of light (150W), and do an excellent job of projecting it horizontally across the ceiling. In this view, they are dimmed to a low output, but still very effective for accent.

You might want to check out Pacific Energy, Fusion. Be sure to look at the firebox size re the length of firewood it can hold.

Hearthstone makes a contemporary stove similar to this, called the Bari, in both wood and gas fired.

how did you do walls on staircase and big panel? Drywall? Panels?

  • PRO
    Studio One-Off Architecture & Design
The walls of the stair are conventional drywall construction. Panels of 1/2" MDF are adhered to this. Small hanger bolts with acorn nuts are used at the corners of the panels, but the secret is that these are just for show. The big "archway" panels framing the opening to the stair are made of stouter 3/4" MDF.

The stove is interesting but small. Does having it off the wall improve its heating output? Who is the stove manufacturer?

The stove is manufactured by RAIS. Makes plenty of heat. Love it.
