This townhouse is in a part of Georgetown filled with similar smaller homes. The rest of the house was designed in a very traditional American style, much like the other historic homes nearby. In the new space, custom cabinetry blends with the rest of the home's elegant interior design. A Calacatta gold marble slab was used for the surrounding counters, while teak was used for the island. Cabinetry: custom designed by Patrick Sutton Associates; backsplash: white glazed subway tile, Waterworks; bar stools: clients' own

White. White is really one of the most asked-about colors. The perfect white is sought after for cabinets and trim. Undertones in white paint are important and can really shift a palette. My favorite pure white is White Dove OC-17, by Benjamin Moore. This white, shown here in this gorgeous kitchen, is crisp with no undertones. It looks great against any color.

2. Wood framed mirror in the kitchen. Instantly create a homier vibe in the kitchen with the addition of a wood framed mirror. Large or small, propped on a shelf or hung from the wall, it all works. The key is to choose a mirror that looks as if it belongs in a living room or bedroom — something with a bit of warmth to it.

On a shelf. In this kitchen, the mirror hangs so it can rest on an open shelf. The tilt permits it to reflect the room’s more attractive design elements, such as the light fixture and cabinetry, as opposed to the plain ceiling. Tip: Place mirrors so that they reflect the best aspects of a room.

not sure about the flat backsplash behind range hood, looks a bit plain, maybe we should keep the detail
