How did you support the wooden bench from underneath? Thanks!

how are the horizontal beams of the roof anchored to the uprights? the plates that can be seen in the picture don't look large enough to support the weight of all that wood.

@ Mara Young - Hello, thank you for your interest in this project. To create the built-in bench Ipe decking was mechanically fastened to a pressure treated wood substructure (chassis) which in turn was mechanically fastened to the metal framing for the Portland cement stucco planters. To prevent deflection, over the long span, and to keep the wood sub-framing to a minimum depth - the leading edge, of the bench, has a flitch beam. This beam is set back from the leading edge so as not to be visible. Hope this is of some help and best of luck with your project. Please feel free to contact our office with any additional questions.
