Does Steam shower work well with high vaulted ceiling and skylight? - I have the same setup in mind but my contractor is advising against the skylight saying that the steam shower will not properly work because the steam will get lost in such a big space. Would truly appreciate any advice. I so love this look and would love any insight into special modifications (to steam unit, tile..) and if it worked well for this homeowner.

Check out www.thermasol.com for sizing, their generators are sufficient for skylights if your ceiling height is 10 feet or less

ThermaSol has a PRO Series generator that can steam a room up to 1150 cubic feet. That should cover your 10' ceiling and then some. Check out the light and music system as well. It is the best on the market. Lifetime warranty also.

Any advice on how to make the transition between the field tile and the accent as seamless as possible? The accent we have selected is thinner and would I think need more of a setting bed to bring it out to the face of the field tile. How do you keep it on plane? Thank you!

set the accent tiles that u have on a custom cut piece of hardibacker, depending on the tickness of ur field tile U could use 1/4" hardibacker . im a tile setter and thats usually what I do . is fast easy and makes the transition unnoticeable. :)

How wide should vertical accent be? - My Shower is seven ft. wide. I would like to put the accent vertical. Would 3" accent be too small?

3 inches seems too narrow in my opinion. What does your accent tile look like though?

Yes, 3" is too small. I would aim for 6" or even 12" so it feels in proportion with the other tile and space.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Becky Harris added this to Accent Tile Stands Out in the Shower
Vertical accent stripes mimic cascading shower water. Also, note the way the stripes line up with the edges of the skylight. This ties this opening all the way into the tub.
Jason Ball at The Decorators Unlimited added this to Your Bath: Good Morning, Sunshine
Add a vaulted ceiling and skylight. In this steam shower/tub, the homeowner really wanted full access to the sky. Sunlight pours in during the day and at night, she can look up at the stars while enjoying a good steam. Doesn't get much better than that.More:Sliding Walls Bring the Outside InBathe in the Light of Clerestory WindowsThe Case for Interior CourtyardsTranslucent Surfaces: A Canvas for Light and Shadow
