Kelly: thanks so much. I will go to your website and take a look. The look I'm after is rustic -meets - traditional. I have a "keeping room" next to my kitchen that has a fireplace. I have an antique red lantern on the mantel and want a mirror to put behind it. Have two stuffed pheasants on either side of fireplace (not as bad as it sounds!,) Mantel is 60" long and space from mantel to ceiling molding is 32 inches. Think I would want something in the 30" x20" range, no? I have always loved mirrors made of twisted wood, antlers, that kind of thing, but in a Houzz style.

Sorry for the long email. Thanks so much.

This is clapboard, not beadboard, but with any of these claddings the best way is to install them board by board, not in the cheaper pressed or routed sheets, and stagger the joints.

That is what I was thinking, to scatter the joints. I couldn't see any of the joints so, I thought maybe there was a trick to it I didn't know about.
Thank you

I like back-painted glass as a back splash.

Yes I did, originally more elaborate, but when I exposed the clapboard I cut back. all local driftwood, and there is a lot more!

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Becky Harris added this to Super Natural Design
Houzz member Tricia Rose is a whiz with natural textures and rustic woods. A mirror fashioned from driftwood or even weathered, reclaimed barn wood can add a dash of coastal style.
Alison Aves added this to Houzz Tour: Creative Cabin on The Water
Rose framed a plain mirror with found driftwood, which she also used to create the legs of the side table. The tabletop is the end of a wine barrel, which she embellished with a scrap of rope. Salvaged galvanized buckets serve as wastebaskets throughout the home.

While beadboard walls ain't exactly new and groundbreaking, but installing 4x8 sheets horizontally is a bit more unexpected. To do this in your own home, keep in mind you'll need a strip of vertical trim between each 4x8 sheet for it to look right.
Becky Harris added this to 20 Spectacular Beach Houses
We've been enjoying the images of Tricia Rose's creative coastal home on San Francisco Bay for several years now.
Natalie Myers added this to The Timeless Elegance of Beadboard
Beadboard is known to be installed vertically, but some people choose to install it horizontally for a different look. The texture of the weathered wood mirror and furniture works well with the texture that beadboard provides on the wall. Painted a driftwood gray, the vignette creates a relaxing feel to the space.

6. Create a unique style by reusing. You can decorate by hanging clever items on the wall, stacking books to add height to a flower arrangement and using a patinaed bucket as a trash can. The results are simply beautiful!
Lisa Frederick added this to Clean Start: Fresh-Faced White Planking
Rough-hewn beams and vintage accents bring out planking's rustic side.
Lisa Frederick added this to Groom Your Rooms With Kentucky Derby Decor
What's the Kentucky Derby without hats? This sweetly simple pink number transitions from head to wall when the race is run. It won't be the most flamboyant topper in the crowd, but it won't look garish hanging on the hook, either.

Mirror and great raw/natural wood used to make a great frame and hence, a great feature as well as increasing light in the room, and feeling of larger total space. ALSO coffee table is al also terrific.
