This adorable little bathroom is in a 1930’s bungalow in Denver’s historic Park Hill neighborhood. The client hired us to help revamp their small, family bathroom. Halfway through the project we uncovered the brick wall and decided to leave the brick exposed. The texture of the brick plays well against the glossy white plumbing fixtures and the playful floor pattern. I wrote an interesting blog post on this bathroom and the owner: Memories and Meaning: A Bathroom Renovation in Denver's Park Hill Neighborhood Photography by Sara Yoder.
Chicago Bungalow Bathroom Near Montrose and California
Chicago Bungalow Bathroom Near Montrose and California
Design Build 4U Chicago
This Chicago Bungalow owner (she actually owns three…) wanted a bathroom remodel that both honored the Bungalow tradition (subway tiles, etc.), but also allowed for her creative and colorful side to emerge – as you can see from the pictures, we accomplished both. The tub is original but re-glazed; the sink and lavatory faucet are both from the Memoirs collection. In fact, all the plumbing for the Shower and tub as well as the toilet are all Kohler products, mostly from the Memoirs collection. The sconces are from Restoration Hardware; and the medicine cabinet is from Robern. The attractive (which most are not…) ceiling light/fan combination is a Harbor Breeze from Lowes. We love working in Bungalows in Chicago – the owners are a special lot: historically minded, quality conscious and good design oriented. This Bungalow bathroom got the works! In keeping with the style of the era (1930’s and 1940’s) when these homes were built, the cornerstone (so to speak) for a bathroom design is the 3”x 6” subway tile. But this Artic White from Daltile was dressed up for a party with ½” Carrera Marble Mosaic in the shower plumbing inset and along the border, and on the floor a marble basket weave (also a period look). The pedestal sink and toilet (both from Kohler) updated the look with more modern lines, but in keeping with the era. The plumbing fixtures are also all from Kohler – their Memoirs collection. This client wanted and got a luxurious retreat in a small bathroom in her vintage Chicago Bungalow. Do you own a Bungalow in Chicago? Then you need to contact us to update your bathroom(s) too! Historic reproduction Subway tile for the walls and Unglazed porcelain hexagons for the floor. – There is no glazing or any other coating applied to the tile. Their color is the same on the face of the tile as it is on the back resulting in very durable tiles that do not show the effects of heavy traffic. The most common unglazed tiles are the red quarry tiles or the granite looking porcelain ceramic tiles used in heavy commercial areas. Historic matches to the original tiles made from 1890 - 1930's. Subway Ceramic floor tiles are made of the highest quality unglazed porcelain and carefully arranged on a fiber mesh as one square foot sheets. A complimentary black hex is also in stock in both sizes and available by the sheet for creating borders and accent designs. Subway Ceramics offers vintage tile is 3/8" thick, with a flat surface and square edges. The Subway Ceramics collection of traditional subway tile, moldings and accessories. Master Suite and Screen Porch Addition
Master Suite and Screen Porch Addition
Scenic Interiors, LLC
A growing family needed extra space in their 1930 Bungalow. We designed an addition sensitive to the neighborhood and complimentary to the original design that includes a generously sized one car garage, a 350 square foot screen porch and a master suite with walk-in closet and bathroom. The original upstairs bathroom was remodeled simultaneously, creating two new bathrooms. The master bathroom has a curbless shower and glass tile walls that give a contemporary vibe. The screen porch has a fir beadboard ceiling and the floor is random width white oak planks milled from a 120 year-old tree harvested from the building site to make room for the addition.
