I really love Birgette’s paintings. I went to her web site and saw the top painting, and it was hung the other way around. Maybe she doesn’t mind which direction her pieces are hung?

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Erika Ward - Erika Ward Interiors added this to 7 Home Trends: Report from High Point Market
If colors overwhelm you, consider pairing them with gray. Gray neutralizes color, transforming a lively palette into one that is calming. Which of these trends do you plan to use in your home this season?
Janell Beals - House of Fifty added this to Beautiful Details: Wainscoting and Paneled Walls
The paneling running up to the ceiling in this entry is very traditional, but ebony floors and a pair of abstract prints with a brilliant pop of yellow stop the space from being formal. Tip: Adding a bright color into a neutral environment can add tremendous style.

4. Add wainscoting. Elements such as wainscoting and board and batten add architectural interest to a nondescript space. Complete the look with simple, attractive accessories to help polish the look.
Scheer & Co. Interior Design added this to Give Your Walls an Architectural Dimension
As with paneling, wainscoting can be an average woodworker's DIY project with affordable wood pieces and a little sweat.
Scheer & Co. Interior Design added this to Straight From the Runway: Yellows and Greens
Something about this entry made me think of this getup by Oscar de la Renta. In both looks, modernity and edginess are tempered with softness in the form of florals. This is easy to achieve in your home with one or two small changes: the right rug, a little topiary, some smashing art — you don't have to overhaul the whole room to make a bug splash.

3. Update your artwork. When was the last time you picked up anything new for your walls? If you've been living with the same prints and other art for years (or decades), make a date to take yourself to an art show, gallery or student sale and pick out a few fresh pieces that speak to you. New art on the walls can do wonders!
