Would a beige be a better choice for all over color in a basement then maybe blend in grays and smoky blues in the pillows and furniture? I am having such a hard time with the basement wall colors, I am still trying to decide but would love to do a small area of stripes on the wall for the media area which will be the "man cave" area.

do you have any natural light via transoms or other? Namely that will be your key determinant for any color choice.

Great, aren't they?!, thanks. It's a heavy weight wrapping paper searched for in two different patterns (one is London, the other New York). We fell in love with their significance and custom framed them.

In an 11x12.5 room with average ceiling, how would you space out the stripes (thickness?) also, where did you get the curtains? thanks!

Do you know your specific ceiling height? 8ft, 9ft? Curtains are custom made.

the base fabric is a white canvas cotton, pretty easy to find. The top paneling is a duck cotton in yellow with patterned trim

The stripes here are actually a gray - might be a screen color difference? The gray used is called Dove Gray from Behr, # 1439. Where do you plan on using it?

No it's actually a traditional wool blend in a small criss cross pattern, but the right sisal would look lovely - just need to find one that is comfortable to walk on, since not all are.

We love this bedding for a little boy too! It's is from Garnet Hill, but no longer available I'm afraid. Here is another sweet boy alternative!

Striped walls - We have 3m high ceilings in my daughters room and were wondering if horizontal stripes would help lower the feel of the room. Would you agree? If so what size stripes (depth) per stripe would you suggest. Many thanks.

It will, yes. this was precisely our goal with this space, with ceilings at over 4m high. The stripes help the eye manage/take in the space better. However, key to your approach is starting with your solid or darker color at the top. If your second color is the same as, or similar to your ceiling, it will only accentuate the height, making the space feel more open.

Love the stripes, is it done on all four walls of the room? - I just love the colors you have used. Was wondering if it stripes on all four walls of a room in a similar shade of grey would look good, or would it be better to stick to one or perhaps three walls with stripes? What would you suggest?

Absolutely! Gray is the ultimate neutralizer. Not only is it calming (which is a great softener when it comes to a pattern like this), but it is also forever a classic. I encourage you to go for it!

What length should I paint stripes in a 13x12 room with 8 ft. celings? - I love this room and would like to do some similar for our baby boy's nursery.

Can I assume that by length you mean height or thickness of each stripe within the 8ft? For the best combination on ease and scale, you should stick to a foot in height. This will give you a nice alternate of colors, and balance well with the size of the room. We'd love to see how it turns out!

Karen Egly-Thompson added this to 9 Pro Tips to Create a Long-Lasting Kids’ Room
Parents usually know what colors their children will respond to, and if a favorite color is red, for example, then you can provide a narrow, better-suited set of reds from which your child will certainly pick a favorite. In this boy’s bedroom, Saether mixed a grayish blue-cream with an intense yellow that doesn’t depart from or compete with the rest of the client’s home.

Other patterns can widen the boundaries of the room. The horizontal stripes make this boy’s room look more spacious, especially because they are in light shades.
