I'd like to know where you found this floating credenza? I see them a lot in design magazine, but can't see to find them in stores/on-line for sale. Where does one look? I'm looking for a floating credenza for the dining-room AND a floating nightstand. Thank you!

Floating credenzas: you either find vintage pieces or have them custom made - as I don't know of any mainstream retailer selling them anymore most likely due to product liability issues for damage due to improper installation.

This sideboard is amazing woodwork from an amazing craftsman.

You can hang just about anything as long as you have the right support for your cabinet and wall structure.

There is quite a bit out there in the blog world on floating IKEA cabinets (to which this fine cabinetry must not be compared).

Here are a couple of floating vanities that were built in Bill's shop (and also quite different from the above) -

Is it ok to have light wood upstairs and dark wood downstairs? - I have light maple stairs and light maple hardwood upstairs. Our basement had carpet but we are changing to antique maple laminate. How do I merge the new colours. The stairs to basement will be new darker colour, the stairs up the lighter existing shade. Will this look stupid? Both are visible entering at front door.

This must be George Nakashima's furniture. True?

How do you remove candle wax from wood tables?

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Natalie Myers added this to Up and Away: Gravity-Defying Furniture
The floating element of the credenza adds a modern touch to the antique Arts and Crafts style seen in this home. It's quite unexpected and a delightful break from the seriousness of the overall room.
Shawn Gauthier added this to Candles Warm the Winter Home
Make the vignette more enticing with beautiful candleholders. Paired with elegant taper candles, the vignette will provide light in a sculptural fashion.
Robyn Lawrence added this to Finding the 'Wabi-Sabi' in Midcentury Modern Design
In the 1940s Knoll furniture company began distributing Pennsylvania craftsman George Nakashima’s polished cherrywood tables and softly geometric chairs. Nakashima’s furniture (like the side table and chair shown here) was museum quality, but he refused to treat it as precious. “A certain amount of scratching and denting adds character to a piece," Nakashima wrote in The Soul of a Tree. "In the trade, surface marring is called distressing; in our family it’s ‘Kevinizing,’ after our son who could, when young, ‘antique’ furniture in record time. To me, there is nothing quite so uninteresting as a shining, perfectly smooth surface that looks as though it has never been used.”Nakashima's daughter, Mira, explained how wabi-sabi influenced him (and continues to guide the work of his studio following his death) in a recent interview. "We depend entirely on the natural shapes and colors of the wood to inspire and determine the course of our work, and never apply artificial colors or shiny finishes," she said.
Marianne Lipanovich added this to The Simple Way to Remove Wax From Candlesticks
If by chance there’s some residue left, then you may have a choice of cold or hot. For the cold method, you can try freezing the wax until it chips off easily. Place the candlestick in a plastic bag to protect it from excessive moisture and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes, then remove it and chip off or wipe off the remaining wax. Another option is to put an ice cube in a plastic bag and hold it on the wax until the wax freezes. “If candlesticks are placed in the freezer, ensure that they are completely dry before adding new candles, as water may have condensed on them,” Bermudez says. “Water in candleholders can result in the candle flame spitting.”
