Are the island cabinets Bamboo and are they from Wood Mode as well? Love how you blended shaker style with the even more contemporary island cabinetry.

The perimeter cabinets are Wood-mode's standard "white" finish and the Island counter is Caesar Stone's "blizzard" (3141)

do you prefer exposed hardware hinges like shown here vs. hidden inside?

      - i typically like it -- more "homey" -- but sometimes it can look too busy...

i understand completely that it's dependent on the period look, how it influences the rest of the design elements in kitchen, and the overall feel. I truly hope i wasn't implying that i thought this particular design looked too busy. I'm a graphic designer and muralist, not an interior designer. My home was destroyed last fall in the Texas fires and so i'm rebuilding and trying to do things economically by using my own design sense (which may not be worth much) so thus, was just inquiring about others' opinions. Hope i did not offend. thanks.

No offense taken. So sorry to hear about your home - I hope your project is going well!

Does anyone know the answer to this question. It's the only answer I'm looking for and no matter how many people ask it, it doesn't get answered.

Do the hinges have to match knobs and pulls

      • sierra711
Oops, he advised to go ahead & paint them.

I have similar hinge. It wasn't difficult to remove the paint, IF you have the time. I removed the hinges, and using a hammer and centerpunch, I was able to remove most of the paint by tapping the hinge. You'd be surprised how easily layers of paint flake off. I then used a scouring pad to remove any little bits that were hard to get to (mostly on the ball for the pin). I finished with flat black spray paint. Overall looks good, but I'm sure painting them is a lot faster. Good luck.

The wood on the island cabinetry is an "engineered" oak veneer that has a look very similar to rift cut oak.
