Hi Helen, Thank you for your nice comments. Which painting did your husband buy you? Regards, Jean
  • Helen Watkins Smith
This is the first time I've ever posted on this website, but I just had to. I mentioned to my husband today that I thought I needed a larger Jean Jack painting to match my small painting (we have a small one with a blue background and a small white farmhouse with a light blue roof) and I KNOW he was listening!

Hi there, it is actually Benjamin Moore's base tint white, the brightest white they make. The trick is to use a variety of finish types to achieve different tint effects. The ceilings are done in satin, the walls are flat and the wainscott is an extra shiney gloss. The fireplace surround is a natural stucco finish, a bit off white. I did the same thing in the kitchen and it looks great!

    Thanks for your interest, Kelley

Hey there! Thanks so much. The armless slipcovered loveseats are from Quatrine. Semi custom and beautiful quality.

Those are from the Sundance Catalog, but from a few years ago. They were just simple glass cylinders with a little stand and then I use Edison bulbs. We hard wired them so we could turn them on and off with a wall switch.

The painting is an original oil by Jean Jack. She does wonderful barns and houses. Kelley

Or in iron, like with the doggy doorstops that adorn this mantel in a time-honored way.

Repetition is created naturally if you have collections. Take the dogs that march across this mantelpiece: They add such whimsy and interest. Notice though, that they are not all over the room. There has been remarkable restraint in the repetition, which is not always easy for those of us who love to collect. Note, too, the way the topiaries are used. They bring a wonderfully organic balance to a room that's brimming with personality.

A grouping of smaller dog statues energizes the mantle of this eclectic sitting room.

A pair of urns or planters that may generally be used outside an entryway can be an interesting addition to a fireplace or even a doorway in your house. You can also divide them up and use them in separate rooms or choose to put one away and keep one out.

Include an antique you inherited. Items with sentimental value will make you feel rich in memories.
