Thank you so much for your reply. I agree. Would the small square Weston work in my kitchen nook (10' ceiling) and then the pillar round chandelier from RH for the family room? The chandelier doesn't come with a chain - 19" rods only and I also have coffered ceilings. Have you ever considered using it in a room with high ceilings? I wonder if you can cap it and convert it to a chain.

I think your ideas would work, we haven't specified RH lighting in several years, so I'm not sure what can be done...maybe ask an electrician?

I sent Kush an email w attached photo of the rug but never got a response from them. I wonder if they don't make the rug--someone commented they saw it in NYC Lee Joffa window (before you responded). I looked at LJ rugs but didn't see this one. I'm on a mission!

Ok, I did some more searching online for flat weave, wool ikat rugs. And found the source, the rug is from French Accents. You'll have to find a distributor/retailer but this will give you the source: http://www.farugs.com/index.php?option=com_rugs&Itemid=13&task=rug&mod=rug&rid=50048

My new house has brazilian cherry floors in the entry, dining, living room and entry hall which is directly outside the entrance to the kitchen. My first choice would be a dark wood floor to ground it but I can't match the brazilian cherry. This particular brazilian cherry floor has light and dark boards, three inches wide..random length..so I can't match it even if I sanded everything together after installing the new kitchen floor. I'm going with a gray slate color 18x18 gray porcelain tile..white inset custom cabinets..I would LOVE to use marble but I know my family and that's not possible..so..I'm looking for a white granite that has gray and black in it. I'm leaning towards a black center island with pewter knobs..same white granite with gray in it..I would love a lantern for above the island but not sure yet..I want to paint it the Woodlawn Blue or Atmosphere Blue by RH.

I think with the white cabinets and the lighter countertops on the perimeter of the kitchen that you're wanting, maybe it's best you don't have more of the brazilian cherry...I like the idea of the slate tiles.

I love the Atmosphere Blue...not loving the green of the Woodlawn Blue with your colors.

For the countertops have you looked at Madam White Granite...it might be the granite you've been looking for..check it out.

It's sounding like you've got a great plan and maybe you'll do a simple subway tile backsplash.

I want to do hardwood floor in upstairs master.. should I try to have continuity with rest of the house and do light oak? or kitchen and use dark maple? what about granite. Kitchen is kashmire white... should I continue with lighter granite? should I do entire house in kashmire white?... I want to do it all right! thanks

lantern question - I am ordering the smaller lantern for over my 6 foot rectangular table in my kitchen nook. Do you think it would provide enough light for over a table? Do you think the smaller size would be a good size, or too big? My ceiling is 10 feet. I bought the larger size already and it seemed too big, so I am going to try the smaller size. If you have more pictures of where you used this light in the house, I would love to see them!!!

I love the way you treated this small space. - I'm also wondering if you considered any other design options. I have a similarly-sized space (13' x 13') with a 6'-wide wainscoted, raised-hearth fireplace. The space is separated from my kitchen by a 36"-high peninsula that houses sink, dishwasher and base cabinets on the kitchen side and bookshelves on the fireplace side. I don't want to overdo the furnishings but I want cozy seating. Any suggestions? Thanks!

We had also thought of a couple wing-back chairs for a more dramatic setting, there wasn't enough room for a small love seat.

Thanks! I agree with you about not enough room for a loveseat. A loveseat might also become a visual barrier whereas the two chairs as you have them placed allows one to "peek" through to the fireplace area.

I love both colors and I will probably go with the RH Atmosphere Blue in my kitchen and use the Woodlawn Blue upstairs somewhere. I love it that much. Thank you so much for the suggestion on the granite. I looked at it and it's a little too pebbly for me. I like some more white in the background. I looked at River White and Andromeda. I like them both but would have to get one that doesn't have too much gray going on..I want the background to be more white. My backup is Kashmir White but it's a little boring and too ordinary. The other one I looked at was Bianco Romano White..If the individual stone is more muted then I like that too but it is a little busy..Decisions! Especially when I don't know what I'm doing! I just know what I like so that's at least a little helpful! Would you go with a black lantern or nickel finish lantern for over the counter?

Once you go to the stone yards and start looking at the actual stones you'll mimed be drawn to the stone that is more appealing to you. Love Bianco Romano White.

I would probably be more likely to use the nickel finish on the lighting or a pewter finish than the black or oiled bronze. Don't be afraid to mix up your metal finishes.

You are one step ahead of me! I didn't mention I already decided on the white subway tile before you suggested it! In one of my other questions I asked about mixing metal finishes because the house I bought has a very high end round lantern with a embossed design in shiny brass in the entry. I already have some brass in my furniture that I don't think I should replace but over the years I've been toning down others that I can with bronze, and adding pewter and silver items, etc. I didn't know if I could leave the brass chandelier in the foyer or it would shout dated..It seems people are mixing the metals..Thanks again..

3. Give each room a warm touch. A folded throw draped over the back of an armchair, a plump quilt at the foot of the bed or an area rug in warm hues are a few small additions that will make a big difference in the way a room feels to prospective buyers. Also, be sure that every light is on — even for daytime showings. Winter days can be quite dim, and your house will look its best when it's as warmly lit as possible.

6. Living area. This stair landing is large enough to function as a full living room, complete with built-ins, a fireplace and comfy chairs for relaxing and reading. It’s easy to conceive of using it as an additional living space or teen retreat. This type of landing zone is typically best to plan for as part of a remodeling project or new build, as many homes otherwise won’t devote this much square footage to the landing area.
