    There is no technique, it is a gray (medium shade) plaster. Opposed to a white plaster that gives you more of a baby blue/light blue color, the gray's will give a much deeper blue color. The deeper the blue/color, the more reflective, like glass (which I love personally/professionally).

    Also, water chemistry, depth of the pool and the light of day will determine the particular color and shade. If you can, check out existing pools, so you can see and decide for yourself what is desirable. Don't get hung up on the miner differences in the samples you can pick out, because you'll never notice the difference from one shade of gray to another (unless they are on complete opposite sides of the color spectrum).
