The ceilings are 12' high and what you see is a drywall beam running through the room and painted a darker color to highlight it - there are two total, fyi.

were the floating shelves custom and if so where did you purchase the hardware to mount?

This is a custom built new construction home. The designer came up with the concept and it was incorporated into the home at the blueprint stage. The contractor, Windmiller Design & Development, built the home with their laborers providing all the materials needed to create the designer's concept. Unfortunately I do not have the details of how the shelves were created or installed.
