Billie and Ruby's place Eclectic Bedroom, New York

Billie and Ruby's place is a residence in Greenwich Village in NYC. The brief called for the removal of as many walls-bedroom, hallway, kitchen- as possible and the creation of an art work hanging system for the owners' extensive art collection.

The sliding doors are custom made. the hardware is from McMaster Carr (and it is not expensive), but the doors and labor can get a bit pricey.

It is a stain from Minwax. It might be indigo. Then polyurethane over the stain.

It was mounted on plywood with adhesive and the plywood was affixed to the wall with "z" clips.

5. Tool chests. A Craftsman tool chest is possibly the most durable bedside table option. Its steel construction, glossy red enamel finish, multiple drawers for storage and heavy-duty casters are defining characteristics. It’s also one of the few bedside tables that locks.

8. Wonder wall. A green turf accent wall behind the bed is the perfect textural element in this colorful space. No need to pay top dollar for the most realistic-looking synthetic you can find, as the texture itself is the driving force of this design decision. Here, it also makes a fun backdrop for a collection of kitschy characters such as dragonflies, bees and other grass-dwelling fauna.

2. Tool chest. Tool chests are not just for the handy. They can be a solid piece of furniture with ample storage. Their typical sizes — 18 to 48 inches wide and in a variety of heights and depths — can easily fit the space next to a bed. Most tool chests come in a glossy color — red and black being the most common — and can be purchased for less than $100. Or perhaps you have one in your garage just waiting to be repurposed. Either way, a tool chest is a multifunctional storage piece that can add character and quirk to your bedroom.Tip: Try a tool chest as a nightstand in a kid’s room. The bright colors, multiple drawers and small scale can add useful storage and a pop of color to your child or teen’s room.
