Buyers beware of this tub maker!

- We ordered a wooden bathtub from Ron Leon of Driftwood Tubs on Dec. 15th, 2014. We sent our first payment promptly by express mail. Mr. Leon claimed that he then went right out to purchase the materials necessary to make our tub. The contract stated that it would take 6-8 weeks to make our tub and that he would be in contact with us often, sending update pictures, and the like. When we had not heard a word in 6 weeks, we contacted him. He admitted that he'd taken his kids ice skating and broken his leg in 6 places, but that he had been working away on the tub...not to worry. All was looking good to ship it to us on Feb. 5th. We commiserated with him and asked if we should postpone our remodel. (We were due to demo on Feb. 2nd.) He wrote back that there was no need to postpone, he was on target to ship Feb. 5th. We have now been in a complete standstill on the remodel with the bathroom in rubble for three weeks. This is affecting not only our life, but our contractor's life. Two days ago (Feb. 23rd), Ron contacted us again that he was finally shipping the tub..."out of Columbus". He did not provide a freight company name or tracking number. He said he would do that later in the evening on Monday, once he knew it. He has been incommunicado ever since. In the contract, he states that he ships to Los Angeles at the Estes Express Terminal, so we made an assumption and called their Columbus office. We learned that while he does have an account there, he has not shipped anything with them since September 2014. His contract also states that if he goes over the 8-week deadline for the tub's completion, we can take $100/week off the balance due. In a phone call with Mr. Leon on February 12th, in which he stated that he needed the second check "in order to ship", he himself suggested I deduct $200 for his lateness. I did. He thanked us for the check by text the following Tuesday, yet he has still NOT shipped the tub. Interestingly, also in his contract, he states that after a ten-week period, if the tub is not delivered, the customer can cancel their order for a full refund. We very much look forward to receiving that so that we can move on to work with true professionals.

Is the tub nice at least? Any problems with it?

tub is nice but i had to do a great deal of customization after the fact. The plan was to be in touch with the builder at each stage of design, and make any adjustments as needed (incline, size, installing a water-tight door etc). Since he would go AWOL for weeks at a time, I wasn't able to guide the design, and wound up with something that had to be greatly adjusted by an independent contractor.
