Brockloch BothyRustic Kitchen
Kitchen/dining space with hand built kitchen unit
What Houzz contributors are saying:
This is a similar piece-of-furniture idea on a smaller scale and in a more modest setting. The essentials — cooktop, oven, sink and storage — are contained in a freestanding “sideboard” to give this Scottish kitchen, dining and living space a relaxed feel.
A strip of storage sits in the center of the building, with the pegs visible on the white wall here stretching through into the bedroom on the other side. Instead of building in storage and hiding things, Booth created a freestanding design for the kitchen. “In a small space, freestanding pieces, which have air around them and floor visible beneath, help the space feel bigger,” he says. The fridge, oven and countertop are part of the single unit. “It feels more like a nice piece of furniture than a fitted kitchen,” Booth says.

Similarly, this idea creates a piece of ‘furniture’ with the kitchen, on a smaller scale and this time in a rural Scottish home. The essentials – stovetop, oven, sink and storage – have been worked into a freestanding sideboard-inspired unit to give this combined kitchen, dining and living space a relaxed feel.
