Anyone have experience with wood ceiling in the bath/shower? I've seen some really cool ones on this site, but my architect & contractor are balking @ the idea...

@Hammer Architects I am using teak tongue & groove for my ceiling in my upstairs bathroom. Above the bathroom is the attic (insulated & plenty of venting). I am also installing a vent fan to the outside. I am located in the Boston area. When you install wood in a bath do you nail them right into the joists? Do you use tar paper or tyvek to wrap the joist first? I do plan on sealing all six side of the planks with a marine grade sealer/urethane. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

any idea how Hemlock would hold up

the ceiling is 8'-6" high and we have an extraction fan connected to a humidistat in the shower enclosure. We are proposing a sikkens exterior stain?

Is not having a door to the shower a problem for anyone else? - We have a similar set up and way too much water gets outside of the shower. Is there any way to fix this without actually adding a glass door?

I have read that rain showers that direct water straight down is recommended to eliminate this problem. In this installation the glass panel looks way too small and I think there would still be spillover.

Another possibility, probably too late for you, but a consideration for new installations is to have a linear drain along the glass wall side of the shower, thus catching any floor spillover.

It's very easy - it can be left to weather naturally, or oiled on occasion.

I love this bathroom & have been searching for similar tiles. Can you advise what colours & sizes you have used?
