Cast Concrete PatioContemporary Patio, San Francisco

To maximize space in a small San Francisco backyard, we built a cast concrete patio with beach rock between the slabs. Artificial turf makes this landscape easy to maintain, while a line of mulch and plants bring in a touch of foliage.

When we did a similar project we dug out the area, filled with sand and 1/4 minus gravel, then set the pavers in place, carefully measuring out the gaps we wanted in between each paver. Then swept more sand in.

Hi Daniel, we worked with a landscape architecture firm for the backyard of this project, but I'm not sure of the specifics re: how the pavers were laid out and poured. Your best bet would be to contact a landscaper in your area who can determine the best way to prepare the base for your specific area.

Hi mom.wolfe1! That's a good question, but unfortunately not one I can answer. I recommend you contact a landscape architect in your area who has experience with pavers and the like in order to determine what will work best in order to achieve your desired outcome.
