Cathy Carr, APLD That's a beautiful porch and stairs! We're very happy when we see Ipe being used in great projects like yours.

Yes, it's a gorgeous wood that will last forever, won't splinter, twist or warp, and is insect-resistant. If you don't mind the Ipe turning grey to look like teak, it's the gold standard. I love wood, but there finally is a terrific-looking and great-performing PVC product out now that I also like. It's called Zuri and is made by Royal Building Products. Less maintenance than Ipe, when you want to keep it looking that dark color, because you have to oil Ipe twice a year in a sunny spot. On a recent deck, I used Ipe handrails, which human hands love, with Zuri as the decking material. See the photos in one of my Project photo collections.

Hi Cathy, Did you use Sikkens or Penofin?

    I prefer Penofin, now.
