Great question. I think the best way to create the illusion of light or a window is to mount a mirror over the tub. A mirror casts similar light and makes a room feel more spacious. A great option if there are no windows. Also, look into the possibility of installing a skylight. These really do let in a good amount of light and should be installed by a licensed contractor. A bit more involved than hanging a mirror, but the results are great.
