Classic Coastal Colonial Renovation - the MudroomTraditional Entry, Newark

The functionality of the mudroom is great. The door, painted a cheery shade called “Castaway,” brings a smile to your face every time you leave. It's affectionately referred to by the homeowners as the "Smile Door."

what finish did you use on the trim and door? estate eggshell, floor paint, or full gloss?

Benjamin Moore semi- gloss. It's slightly less glossy then Sherwin Williams.

Thank you again! We are working with a relatively narrow hallway and trying to keep the hallway wide enough but also have useful storage for 4 kids tHat is really helpful as most I've seen are 24 inches on the depth. Could you share one last measurement? The width of each individual cubby? I appreciate your help!
  • PRO
    Michael Robert Construction
Most of the measurements are above! I believe each is 15" wide.

My front door is this color and the interior color is not. I wasn't sure when my architect chose the colors but now I LOVE the color!!!

I think that the lockers are approximately 24" deep on the bottom and 15"-18" deep on top. The length is about 9' and the height looks about 8' high. I have done a similar look in wood with rattan with my kitchen cabinetry line. You have many options to choose from with this cabinetry
  • PRO
    Michael Robert Construction
Yes, these were custom built. The dimensions of the cubbies ("lockers") are:
    width: 15" (there are 5)
    height (of middle cubby): 51"
    height of top cubby: 15"
    height of bottom cubby: 15"
Are those the dimensions you are looking for?
Sorry for my delayed response, this questions must have gotten lost in my inbox! Thanks to Houzz for reminding me to answer it!

I love this color scheme for my exterior. The wall color as siding color, white trim and that scrumptious blue for the door!

Great idea! The wall color is Farrow and Ball's Skimming Stone and the trim is Wimborne White, also F&B. Share pics if you do it!

Of course! It's Skimming Stone by Farrow & Ball. A beautiful, versatile neutral. We used it over much of the first floor.

If you go to your local paint store, ask them to pull it up on the database and mix BM or SW to match. You could also order a swatch if they'll send it to you, and bring that with you.

Any painter should be able to paint a door. Is it an old door? They may have to sand it down before repainting if it is. Use a semi gloss finish, and if you want an extremely seamless finish you can ask your painter about spraying it instead of brushing it on. Good luck!

The wall you are looking at is about 8'. There is a door on the left that starts about 1' from the end of the cubbies.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

danyelle
Danyelle Mathews added this to Doors Open to ColorFeb 17, 2012

Mudrooms are generally small, narrow spaces. The blue on the door in this mudroom brightens up the space and adds a dash of personality.

Becky Harris added this to Fresh Start: Paint the Front DoorJan 3, 2012

Blue: Consider also transforming your entryway by painting the interior side of the door, too. This shade adds energy to this hallway.

Vanessa Brunner added this to Houzz Tour: A Loving Remodel for High-School SweetheartsNov 29, 2011

The mudroom was a great practical addition for this growing family. The couple brightened up the space with apple green baskets and a cheerful turquoise door. "This door is very special to us," Ellie says. "My husband calls it the 'smile door' because it makes him smile every morning when he leaves for work."Tile: Tumbled TravertinePaint color: Castaway by Dunn Edwards

Jen L'Italien added this to Color Crush: A Pop of TurquoiseNov 9, 2011

Saved to my inspiration file: Paint your door turquoise. It's so much more fun than basic white.
